An efficient method for the asymmetric synthesis of β-trifluoromethylated β-amino ketones via addition of ketone-derivative enolates to trifluoromethylated sulfinylimine has been developed, with good chemical yields and excellent diastereoselectivities. Preparation in excellent yields of cyclobutyl benzofuran-2-yl- and naphthofuran- 2-yl-ketones, the corresponding ketoximes and thiosemicarbazones, ether derivatives of the ketoximes and thiazoles derived from the thiosemicarbazones are described. Two of the synthesized compounds have been tested against eight different microorganisms and found to be active against some of the species studied.
A convenient method for the preparation of alkynes and alkynyl esters from ketones and β-keto esters is described which involves the formation of vinyl triflates, followed by elimination with tetrabutylammonium fluoride trihydrate, to give alkynes. Unlike established elimination methods, the method requires neither a strong base nor anhydrous conditions.
