We study the interplay between effects of disease burden on the host population and the effects of population growth on the disease incidence, in an epidemic model of SIR type with demography and disease-caused death. We revisit the classical problem of periodicity in incidences of certain autonomous diseases. Under the assumption that the host population has a small intrinsic growth rate, usin...

We propose a self-complementary bow-tie antenna-integrated resonant-tunneling-diode relaxation oscillator and investigate its oscillation/radiation characteristics. In the investigation, we establish a physics-based equivalent circuit model of the oscillator for taking the all physical phenomena related to the diode and the antenna into consideration simultaneously. In this paper, we report the...

When a fraction of the light reflected by an external cavity re-enters the laser cavity, both the amplitude and the frequency of the lasing field can be modulated. This phenomenon is called the self-mixing effect (SME). A self-mixing laser diode (SM-LD) is a sensor using the SME. Usually, such LDs operate below the stability boundary where no relaxation oscillation happens. The boundary is dete...

We formulate a fractional stochastic oscillation equation as a generalization of Bagley’s fractional differential equation. We do this in analogous way as in the case of Basset’s equation which gives rise to fractional stochastic relaxation equations. We analyze solutions under some conditions of spatial regularity of the operators considered.

The concept of a relaxation spectrum is used to compute the absorption and dispersion of a linear anelastic solid. The Boltzmann aftereffect equation is solved for a solid having a linear relationship between stress and strain and their first time derivatives, the 'standard linear solid', and having a distribution of relaxation times. The distribution function is chosen to give a nearly constan...
