近年、mRNAやsiRNAなどの核酸医薬が、次世代の医療を支える医薬として期待を集めている。RNAを医薬として疾患部位で作用させるためには、標的細胞の細胞内への効率的なRNA送達法が重要となる。本稿では、さまざまなターゲティング戦略の中の1つである、光を用いた標的特異的RNA送達に注目する。具体的には、光化学的内在化（PCI）機構やPhotothermal機構を介して細胞質内にRNAを送達するキャリアを用いる方法について紹介する。これらのキャリアは、光で狙いうちした標的細胞のみにおいて細胞質内へのRNA送達を促進することで、標的特異的にRNA医薬を作用させることを可能にする。
