background: reverse osmosis (ro) is an increasingly common method of desalination. a full scale water desalination system by membrane technology (ro) evaluated in a southern city (jask) in iran. methods: first, data collection on water supply and network were performed. analysis on most of the water quality parameters (turbidity, ph, ec, cl-, na+, alkalinity, ca, na, k, no3, no2, fe, mg, mn, nh...

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a compact process for the removal of ionic and organic pollutants from contaminated water. This study deals with the development of dynamic model for tubular reverse osmosis unit. The proposed model describes the unit as a series of single tubes, each tube is described by two ordinary differential equations (ODE) and the whole module is to be described by sets of differe...

We have previously reported the use of hydrogel particles as the draw agent for forward osmosis desalination. In the present work, the effects of draw agent, feed concentration and membrane on the process performance were systematically examined. Our results showed that the incorporation of carbon filler particles in polymer hydrogels led to enhanced swelling ratios of the draw agents and thus ...

Osmosis is a physical phenomenon that has been extensively studied by scientists in various disciplines of science and engineering. Early researchers studied the mechanism of osmosis through natural materials, and from the 1960s, special attention has been given to osmosis through synthetic materials. Following the progress in membrane science in the last few decades, especially for reverse osm...

We study the energy consumption optimization of a reverse osmosis water desalination process producing a constant permeate flow in the presence of feed concentration fluctuation. We propose a time-varying optimal operation strategy that can significantly reduce the specific energy consumption compared to time-invariant process operation. We present both computational and experimental results th...

Abstract Our previously reported exploration (Journal of Membrane Science 565 (2018) 241–253) on the differences between fouling in reverse osmosis (RO) and forward (FO), used alginate as a foulant with initial conditions that ensured starting fluxes were same. That study found for cellulose triacetate (CTA) membrane extent fouling, based analysis resistance, was greater when part FO system. He...

We developed a method for the in situ synthesis of an oligoamide coating on gold. The resultant surface chemical composition, wettability, and chemical nature were comparable to aromatic polyamide films used as reverse osmosis membranes. Hence, the oligoamide wafer may be used in adsorption/fouling studies as a surface mimetic of reverse osmosis membranes.
