Net taurine transport across the frog retinal pigment epithelium-choroid was measured as a function of extracellular potassium concentration, [K+]o. The net rate of retina-to-choroid transport increased monotonically as [K+]o increased from 0.2 mM to 2 mM on the apical (neural retinal) side of the tissue. No further increase was observed when [k+]o was elevated to 5 mM. The [K+]o changes that m...

We present a case study where we use automated formal analysis to reason about problem-frame concerns. The descriptions of the problem domains, machine and requirements are written in the Alloy language. We show that an evaluation of results and counterexamples provided by a model finder can reveal useful information that can help remove inconsistencies as well as composition errors.

BACKGROUND Several methods that are currently used for contouring analysis have problems providing reliable and/or meaningful results. In this paper a solution to these problems is proposed in a form of a novel measure, which was developed based on requirements defined for contouring studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS The proposed distance deviation measure can be understood as an extension of th...

We introduce a strategy for the verification of relational specifications based on the analysis of monotonicity of variables within formulas. By comparing with the Alloy Analyzer, we show that for a relevant class of problems this technique outperforms analysis of the same problems using SAT-solvers, while consuming a fraction of the memory SAT-solvers require.

Alloy is a formal modeling language based on first-order relational logic, with no native support for specifying reactive systems. We propose an extension of Alloy to allow the specification of temporal formulas using LTL, and show how they can be verified by bounded model checking with the Alloy Analyzer.

In the title complex, [Rb(C(36)H(61)O(11))]·2H(2)O, the Rb(+) cation is coordinated by seven O atoms of monensin. Rb-O distances range from 2.7870 (17) to 3.1429 (17) Å. Both O atoms of the carboxyl-ate group are involved in the coordination of Rb. The structure displays inter- and intra-molecular O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Distributed-feedback laser diodes emitting at 780 nm have been evaluated, with respect to the aging of the injection current required for reaching the rubidium D2 resonance line. Results obtained for lasers operating in air and in vacuum for 9 months are reported. When operated at constant temperature, the laser current required for emission at the wavelength of the desired atomic resonance is ...

We describe the loading of laser-cooled rubidium atoms into a single-mode hollow-core photonic-crystal fiber. Inside the fiber, the atoms are confined by a far-detuned optical trap and probed by a weak resonant beam. We describe different loading methods and compare their trade-offs in terms of implementation complexity and atom-loading efficiency. The most efficient procedure results in loadin...

Potassium is actively transported from blood-side to lumen of the isolated silkworm midgut (Harvey & Nedergaard, 1964). Rubidium is also actively transported and, when present in equal amounts, potassium and rubidium compete on an almost equal basis (Nedergaard & Harvey, 1968). Recently, Zerahn (1970) has found that caesium as well is actively transported, but the competition with potassium is ...
