The Tigecycline Evaluation and Surveillance Trial is a global surveillance study monitoring the efficacy of tigecycline and comparators against clinically important pathogens. Between 2004 and 2010, 3126 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were collected from 66 centers in 13 countries in Latin America; of these, 1467 (46.9%) were resistant to methicillin. The main contributors of S. aureus isola...

background and objectives: staphylococcus aureus is a versatile organism causing mild to life threatening infections. the major threat of this organism is its multidrug resistance. the present study was carried out to investigate in - vitro activity of conventional antibiotics routinely prescribed for methicillin resistant s. aureus (mrsa) and methicillin sensitive s. aureus (mssa) infections i...

Staphylococcus aureus-human interactions result in a continuum of outcomes from commensalism to pathogenesis. S. aureus is a clinically important pathogen that asymptomatically colonizes ~25% of humans as a member of the nostril and skin microbiota, where it resides with other bacteria including commensal Corynebacterium species. Commensal Corynebacterium spp. are also positively correlated wit...

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the persistence of nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus and multidrug-resistant S. aureus over 14 days of follow-up among industrial hog operation workers in North Carolina. METHODS Workers anticipating at least 24 h away from work were enrolled June-August 2012. Participants self-collected a nasal swab and completed ...

In this retrospective cohort study, patients who had Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia but who lacked signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection due to S. aureus and who did not have an indwelling urinary catheter had a likelihood of S. aureus bacteriuria of 2.5% (2 of 79 patients). Therefore, we strongly question the theory that S. aureus bacteremia causes S. aureus bacteriuria.

Background & Objectives: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common nosocomial pathogens with high mortality rates. The Biofilm-dependent methicillin-resistant S. aureus remains a major clinical concern in this group of patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the icaABCD forming biofilm genes in methicillin resistant isolates of S. aureus. Materials and Methods: In study was per...

Background: Among the bacteria that cause food poisoning, Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common causes of food poisoning worldwide. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of S. aureus strains in Iranian hamburgers, analysis of their antibiotic resistance pattern, and molecular detection of mecA gene in isolated strains. Methods: A total of 100 Iranian handmade (traditi...
