Sapoviruses, members of the family Caliciviridae, are genetically diverse and divided into multiple genogroups. Only a few complete genome sequences of animal strains are available. We report the first complete genome sequences of genogroup VI sapoviruses, those of strains JJ674 and JJ681, isolated from fecal samples from diarrheic pigs.

Human sapoviruses (SaVs) were quantified and characterized in an 18-month survey conducted along the Llobregat river catchment area in Spain. Sample types included freshwater, untreated and treated wastewater, and drinking water. All genogroups were recovered, and a seasonal distribution was observed. This is the first report of SaV quantification and genotyping in the environment outside Japan.

Sapoviruses, which are members of the Caliciviridae family, are small nonenveloped viruses known to infect a large spectrum of mammalian hosts. We report here the first complete genome sequences of two genogroup I sapoviruses isolated from fecal samples from chimpanzees living in the Tchimpounga sanctuary, Republic of Congo.

The clinical features of benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (CwG) were studied retrospectively in 62 patients hospitalized (Jan 2000-March 2006) at St Mary's Hospital, Kurume City, Japan. Viral infections confirmed in 71% of fecal specimens were rotavirus in 30 patients, norovirus in 9, sapovirus in 2, adenovirus in 2, and coxsackievirus A4 in 1. Age of patients with norovirus (16.7 +...

Aim. To gain insight into the molecular diversity of sapovirus in outpatients with acute gastroenteritis in Nanjing, China. Methods. The specimens from outpatients clinically diagnosed as acute gastroenteritis were detected by real-time PCR; RT-PCR was then performed to amplify part of VP1 sequences. The PCR products were cloned into pGEM-T Easy vector and bidirectionally sequenced. All sequenc...

Viral gastroenteritis is the most frequent cause of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) of childhood. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of viral agents including astrovirus, rotavirus, adenovirus, enterovirus, norovirus, parechovirus, Aichivirus and sapovirus in children with AGE in a pediatric Turkish population. Fecal specimens of 240 children with AGE were investigated by polymer...

Vesivirus 2117 is an adventitious agent that, in 2009, was identified as a contaminant of Chinese hamster ovary cells propagated in bioreactors at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant belonging to Genzyme. The consequent interruption in supply of Fabrazyme and Cerezyme (drugs used to treat Fabry and Gaucher diseases, respectively) caused significant economic losses. Vesivirus 2117 is a member o...
