This paper offers an interpretation of the photometric and polarimetric variability of UXORs where the star is surrounded by an optically thick, flared circumstellar disk similar to pre-main–sequence disks. A screen of dust sporadically obscures the stellar radiation, causing a minimum of the stellar light. Using a Monte Carlo code developed by Whitney & Hartmann (1992) we compute the polarizat...

We predict a new spatial quantum correlation in light propagating through a multiple scattering random medium. The correlation depends on the quantum state of the light illuminating the medium, is infinite in range, and dominates over classical mesoscopic intensity correlations. The spatial quantum correlation is revealed in the quantum fluctuations of the total transmission or reflection throu...

Aims. To understand how the multitude of planetary systems that have been discovered come to be, we need study at different evolutionary stages, with central stars but also in environments. The most challenging environment for planet formation may be harsh UV radiation field nearby massive which quickly erodes disks by external photo-evaporation. We observed AT Pyx system, located head a cometa...

We consider the photoacoustic effect for multiply scattered light in a random medium. Within the accuracy of the diffusion approximation to the radiative transport equation, we present a general analysis of the sensitivity of a photoacoustic wave to the presence of one or more small absorbing objects. Applications to tumor detection by photoacoustic imaging are suggested.

Recently, we have proposed a method to image fluorescent structures behind turbid layers at diffraction limited resolution using wave-front shaping and the memory effect. However, this was limited to a raster scanning of the wave-front shaped focus to a two dimensional plane. In applications, it can however be of great importance to be able to scan a three dimensional volume. Here we show that ...
