We report on the combination of slow light propagation with the resonanceproperties of a photonic crystal cavity and with the slow mode of a photonic crystalwaveguide. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that slow light induced by theCoherent Population Oscillation (CPO) effect enables to have small-size and ultra-high quality (Q) factor cavity, regardless of ...

The novel contactless current sensors consist of an integrated CMOS Hall effect sensor covered by a thin, ferromagnetic layer structured on its surface. The Integrated Magnetic Concentrator (IMC) layer acts as a magnetic flux concentrator, providing a high magnetic gain which increases the sensor’s signal-to-noise ratio. The sensor is particularly appropriate for DC and AC current measurement. ...

The rapid melting of silicon film due to the absorption of a CW laser beam radiation is studied. The silicon film melting and recrystallization is mainly controlled by the temperature distribution in the semiconductor. The enthalpy technique for the solution of phase change problems is used in an explicit finite difference form to calculate the transient temperature distribution in the silicon ...

The hybrids of ATLAS semi-conductor tracker (SCT) were made with Cu/Polyimide flex-circuits, reinforced with carbon-carbon substrates, in the barrel and in the endcap modules. We report successes, problems and solutions in the course of production of 2600 pieces of hybrids each.

In the context of a semi-conductor based implementation of a quantum computer the idea of a quantum storage bit is presented and a possible implementation using a double quantum dot structure is considered. A measurement scheme using a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage is discussed.

An ideal conductor electrode in contact with a semi-infinite two-dimensional twocomponent plasma in an external potential is considered. The model is mapped onto an integrable sine-Gordon theory with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The information gained from the mapping provides an explicit form of the surface tension in the plasma-stability regime.

This study presents an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to objectively select the best temperature sensor from among different alternative sensors in a certain industrial application. The underlying decision method based on AHP methodology, ranks temperature sensors with different features with a score resulting from the synthesis of relative preferences of each alternative with respect ...

The conductor corona noise of four local 400 kV AC transmission lines is measured and compared to predictions. The prediction software developed is based on the EPRI semi-analytical approach using excitation functions and the theory of natural modes. The nature and accuracy of the prediction software is discussed along with relevant corona noise metrology issues encountered.
