This paper describes an 84-116 GHz Nb/Al-oxide/Nb SIS mixer with multi-octave IF bandwidth and quantum-limited sensitivity. The mixer can be integrated with a three-stage 4-12 GHz HFET preamplifier or fitted with a coaxial connector for operation with an external isolator and IF amplifier. An 84-116 GHz receiver using the mixer with an integrated 4-12 GHz HFET preamplifier has a double sideband...

We developed a confocal microscopic method for a quantitative evaluation of the mixing performance of a three-dimensional microfluidic mixer. We fabricated a microfluidic baker's transformation (MBT) mixer as a three-dimensional passive-type mixer for the efficient mixing of solutions. Although the MBT mixer is one type of ideal mixers, it is hard to evaluate its mixing performance, since the...

Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation is an effective research approach for understanding velocity fields used in process and equipment intensification. It was found that mixer-settler used in rare earth metal extraction process was unsatisfying in large amount of liquid backlogged, high energy consumption and longtime settling process. In this paper, CFD simulations and experiment valid...

We report on microwave measurements of superconducting aluminum hot-electron bolometers (Al HEBs). Diffusion-cooled Al HEB mixers are ideal candidates for space-borne and terrestrial remote-sensing applications in the Terahertz frequency range since they are predicted to have small local oscillator (LO) power requirements, intermediate frequency (IF) bandwidths ! 10 GHz, and a noise temperature...

Smart use of mixers is a relevant issue in radio engineering and in instrumentation design, and of paramount importance in phase noise metrology. However simple the mixer seems, every time I try to explain to a colleague what it does, something goes wrong. One difficulty is that actual mixers operate in a wide range of power (150 dB or more) and frequency (up to 3 decades). Another difficulty i...

Identity Mixer is an anonymous credential system developed at IBM that allows users for instance to prove that they are over 18 years old without revealing their name or birthdate. This privacy-friendly technology is realized using zero-knowledge proofs. We describe a formal model of Identity Mixer that is well-suited for automated protocol verification tools in the spirit of black-box cryptogr...

This paper describes how to response of oscilloscopes, especially at low fre MHz to 1 GHz. The method uses the phas standard mixer calibrated by three-mixer reference phase. We describe basic principles obtained using a balanced mixer and a real-tim GHz BW).

A simple solution to mixing problems in micro fluidic systems was presented in this paper. A T-form microfluidic mixer was designed and tested utilizing pressure disturbances. The performance of the mixer was studied through both numerical simulation and experimentation. Based on results of numerical simulation, more than 75% mixing can be finished within a mixing distance of less than 1.5mm fr...

The fragment-size distributions of raw carrot diced or crushed using a food mixer are studied experimentally. For the 5-mm-square carrot, normal distribution shows characteristic feature fragmentation statistics. This simple result indicates that most random errors contribute to fluctuation. On other hand, for cumulative fragment size follows power law where exponent \(\alpha \simeq 1.62 > 1\)....
