BACKGROUND We conducted this longitudinal prospective study to illustrate a surgical technique for swallowing rehabilitation of patients after partial laryngectomy. METHODS Nine patients with persistent swallowing impairment after partial laryngectomy were included in the study. Evaluation of swallowing was performed by fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), and was quantified...

Basil Gordon, in the sixties, and George Andrews, in the seventies, generalized the Rogers-Ramanujan identities to higher moduli. These identities arise in many areas of mathematics and mathematical physics. One of these areas is representation theory of infinite dimensional Lie algebras, where various known interpretations of these identities have led to interesting applications. Motivated by ...

This review surveys recent research developed in behavioral economics on the determinants of unethical behavior. Most recent progress has been made in three directions: the understanding of the importance of moral norms in individual decision-making, the conflicting role of opportunities provided by asymmetries of information and social preferences, and the crucial effect of rules, occupational...

Smooth slopes can be displayed on treadmills through tilt mechanisms , but these mechanisms are typically too slow to present sudden slope changes. The Sarcos Treadport utilizes a mechanical tether that can apply horizontal forces to the user to simulate gravity forces. Psychophys-ical results are presented to show that slope display via tether forces is a reasonable facsimile for treadmill slo...

We give a “second generation” exposition of the slope filtration theorem for modules with Frobenius action over the Robba ring, providing a number of simplifications in the arguments. Some of these are inspired by parallel work of Hartl and Pink, which points out some analogies with the formalism of stable vector bundles.
