Smart Dust particles, are small smart materials used for generating weather maps. We investigate question of the optimal number of Smart Dust particles necessary for generating precise, computationally feasible and cost effective 3–D weather maps. We also give an optimal matching algorithm for the generalized scenario, when there are N Smart Dust particles and M ground receivers.
The fast-evolving nature of contemporary lifestyles means an increasing demand for smart materials that can adapt to the changing needs of consumers. While the market for smart materials is forecast to be worth USD $80 billion by 2020,1 to date there has been little research on fundamental design processes for smart materials. Studies focus on technical application and functionality but neglect...
background: a major issue in many gene expressionstudies utilizing small amount of biological materials is thelimited quantity of rnapurified from clinical samples, which isoften used for rt-pcr or standard northern blot analysis.objectives: the smart cdna synthesis method and subsequentsmart-cdna-pcr technique was used to analyse 3genes in macroschizonts of theileria annulata in small lymphnod...
In this paper, we describe our current work on bio-inspired locomotion systems using smart materials. The aim of this work is to investigate alternative actuation mechanisms based on smart materials, exploring the possibility of building motor-less and gear-less robots. A swimming underwater robot is being developed whose movements are generated using such materials, concretely Shape Memory All...
ABSTRACT Reported herein is an overview of the research being conducted within the Materials Division at NASA Langley Research Center on the development of smart material technologies for advanced airframe systems. The research is a part of the Aircraft Morphing Program which is a new six-year research program to develop smart components for self-adaptive airframe systems. The fundamental areas...
In this paper, model-free controllers for multilink smart materials robots are presented. The approach allows controller design in the absence of a system model which is complex and difficult to obtain for multilink smart materials robots, and provides additional degrees of freedom in feedback control design. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the presented approach.
In this paper, the main objective is to provide an overview of a new class of research problems for the area which is broadly termed smart structures control. To this end, we describe electroactive smart materials and focus on control issues which naturally arise. Such materials, typically nano and micro-polymers, have mechanical properties controlled by an electric field. Unlike existing appro...
