semen analysis, sperm dna fragmentation (sdf) and hypo-osmotic swelling test (host) are usually performed for the evaluation of sperm fertilizing ability. there are some debates over the necessity of sdf and host incorporation in male infertility work-up.semen of 77 men was evaluated by sdf and host through three semen analyses. sperm parameters were arranged into different categories: < 5%, 5-...

Background: Digital image processing and analysis are used for computer assisted evaluation of sperm morphology. Sperm head morphology has been identified as a characteristic that can be used to predict a male’s semen quality. On the other hand, zygote competence analysis is an importance tool to select embryo(s) for transfer. The aim of the present study is to determine zygote quality resulted...

sperm is produced by the testis and mature in the epididymis. for having a successful conception, the fertilizing sperm should have functional competent membranes, intact acrosome, functional mitochondria and an intact haploid genome. the effects of genetic and environmental factors result in sperm vulnerability to damage in the process of spermatogenesis and maturation. in recent years, the fe...

BACKGROUND High level of semen reactive oxygen species is considered as an important factor in male infertility. Sesame has antioxidant properties, which could be effective on improvement of semen parameters. This study was designed to determine the effects of sesame on sperm quality. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five infertile men entered this clinical trial. They were treated with a 3-month...

In the present study, bull sperm in the first and second ejaculates were divided into subpopulations based on their motility characteristics using a cluster analysis of data from computer-assisted sperm motility analysis (CASA). Semen samples were collected from 4 Japanese black bulls. Data from 9,228 motile sperm were classified into 4 clusters; 1) very rapid and progressively motile sperm, 2)...

Raman Spectroscopy was evaluated as a non-invasive method of analysis of sperm DNA and the influence of UV irradiation on the sperm. The results show that Raman Spectroscopy, combined with multivariate analysis provide the reproducible and accurate information on DNA of sperm and the effect and location of damage.

Several studies have shown that dopamine and other catecholamines are present in oviduct luminal fluid. We recently reported that dopamine type 2 receptors (DRD2) are present in a wide range of mammalian sperm, suggesting a role for dopaminergic signaling in events such as fertilization, capacitation, and sperm motility. In the present study, we used Western blot analysis to show that boar sper...
