Elongation of the styloid process occurs in 4-7% of individuals. In the majority this elongation is asymptomatic. Presence of oropharyngeal pain and dysphagia with such elongation is known as Eagle syndrome. The aetiology of Eagle syndrome is believed to be a reactive osseus hyperplasia of the styloid process in response to pharyngeal trauma or surgical intervention, such as tonsillectomy. We p...
Cervicofacial pain can occur due to elongated styloid process or calcifi cation of stylomandibular ligament or stylohyoid ligament. Other factors also include chronic tonsillitis and tonsillopharyngitis. When the etiology of cervicofacial is elongated styloid process and/or ossifi cation of ligament stylomandibular or stylohyoid it is referred as Eagle syndrome. Here, we are presenting the repo...

An unusual case of a unilaterally elongated styloid process with a length of 5.8 cm was found on a dry skull of a male cadaver. During his life the subject was complaining for reported ipsilateral otalgia presumably due to nerve compression from the elongated styloid process. The symptomatology appeared by such an anatomical variant as well as relative literature is discussed in this paper.
Elongation of the styloid process is a rare condition. Only 4% of patients have clinical symptoms where elongated styloid process (ESP) occasionally irritates or disrupts adjacent anatomical structures, which is called Eagle syndrome. This present report was aimed at reporting an asymptomatic ESP with unusual width and length.
elongation of the styloid process or stylohyoid ligament calcification is a well recognized finding of dental practice, and an incidence of 4 to 30 percent has been reported on radiographs. rarely, complete mineralization of the stylohyoid ligament or elongation of styloid process has been associated with difficulties in intubation and significant clinical symptoms, which is termed eagle’s synd...
Eagle's syndrome occurs when an elongated styloid process or calcified stylohyoid ligament causes recurrent throat pain or foreign body sensation, dysphagia, or facial pain. Additional symptoms may include neck or throat pain with radiation to the ipsilateral ear. In adults, the styloid process is approximately 2.5 cm long, and its tip is located between the external and internal carotid arteri...
Historically, Eagle syndrome is a term that has been used to describe radiating pain in the orofacial region, foreign body sensation, and/or dysphagia due to a unilateral or bilateral elongated styloid process impinging upon the tonsillar region. Because elongated styloid processes-with or without associated Eagle syndrome-can present with various symptoms and radiographic findings, it can be c...
INTRODUCTION Detailed anatomical knowledge of the distal end of the ulna plays a pivotal role in understanding post-injury instability and painful conditions at the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), which can be due to avulsion of the ulnar styloid process or ulnar styloid triquetral impaction syndrome. With this in mind, data on the morphological features of distal ulnae in the Indian population...
Knowledge of the Eagle's syndrome shows that its symptoms can be very easily confused with other types of craniomandibular disorders, especially temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The aim of this study was to find a possible correlation between the presence of TMD and elongation of the styloid process as well relate to presence of calcification of the stilohyoid chain. Fifty patients with TMD, ...
