Karami, M, Sadat, MM,

This was a retrospective review of a consecutive series of patients with spinal disease in year 2000, who underwent posterior fusion and instrumentation with Harrington distraction and Cotrel-Dobousset system to evaluate causes of hardware failure. Many cases of clinical failure has been observed in spinal instrumentation used in spinal disorder like spondylolisthesis, fractures, deformities, …...

background: this study aimed to investigate the pedicle dimension and angulation in cervicothoracic junction (ctj) using the findings of computed tomographic (ct) to help accurate insertion of pedicular screw. methods: forty three patients with high quality ct images of ctj were evaluated. pedicle width (pw), pedicle height (ph), pedicle axis length (pal), transverse angle (ta) and sagittal ang...

OBJECTIVE To improve pedicle screw placement accuracy with minimal radiation and low cost, we developed specially designed K-wire with a marker. To evaluate the accuracy of thoracolumbar pedicle screws placed using the novel guide-pin and portable X-rays. METHODS Observational cohort study with computerized tomography (CT) analysis of in vivo and in vitro pedicle screw placement. Postoperativ...

STUDY DESIGN Pedicle screw strength or load to failure was biomechanically evaluated, and the geometric characteristics of pedicle screw instrumentation systems were compared. OBJECTIVES To compare the features of pedicle screw systems, and to demonstrate the failure point of the polyaxial pedicle screw head. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Many pedicle screw instrumentation systems are currentl...

Anatomical measurements of the cervical pedicle in a large series of human cervical vertebrae from 48 individuals were obtained to reduce the incidence and severity of complications caused by transpedicular screw placement. The greatest pedicle length was at C-3 and the greatest pedicle width was at C-6. Pedicle width and lateral mass thickness gradually increased from C-3 to C-6. Pedicle heigh...

Snapping scapula syndrome has several etiologies, including subscapular osteochondroma. When this tumor needs to be removed, this can be done arthroscopically, a procedure that has restricted indications. The authors present a case of a patient with superomedial subscapular osteochondroma who underwent a scapulothoracic arthroscopy for its removal.

We describe a technique of resecting the superomedial border of the scapula for treatment of "snapping scapula." We have performed 5 consecutive open resections with the patient in the beach-chair position, and results have been good. This technique may be of particular benefit in patients who undergo concomitant glenohumeral arthroscopy.

STUDY DESIGN Using fresh cadavers, the biomechanical testing were used to examine the pullout strength of each pedicle screw. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate pullout strength of (1) a redirected pedicle screw following lateral wall breach; (2) a redirected pedicle screw following end-plate breach; and (3) a pedicle without redirection after end-plate breach without redirection...

OBJECTIVES To determine the range of normal radiographic joint space width (JSW) values and the shape of the normal hip, and the influence of age, sex, dysplasia, coxa profunda, and acetabular roof curve abnormalities on these values. METHODS On routine conventional pelvic radiographs taken in the supine position in patients with no history of hip or lumbar pain, JSW was measured at three poi...
