In this paper, we propose and analyze a tensor product subdivision scheme which is the extension of three point scheme for curve modeling. The usefulness of the scheme is illustrated by considering different examples along with its application in surface modeling.
Atmospheric pressure observations from the Southern Hemisphere are used to estimate monthly and annually averaged indexes of the southern annular mode (SAM) back to 1884. This analysis groups all relevant observations in the following four regions: one for Antarctica and three in the subtropical zone. Continuous surface pressure observations are available at a number of locations in the subtrop...
This paper provides an overview of advances in the surface metrology field, concerning surface creation, measurement need, instrumentation, characterisation methods and standard development. It indicates industry requirements and further developments for micro and nano scalar surface metrology.
In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of creating flattening maps of simplyconnected open surfaces in R3. Using a natural principle of density diffusion in physics, we propose an effective algorithm for computing density-equalizing flattening maps with any prescribed density distribution. By varying the initial density distribution, a large variety of mappings with different properti...
On October 6, 2002, M/V GOTIA, carrying 163 metric tons of fuel oil in her fuel tanks, rammed into the Emirgan Pier in the Bosporus. One of the fuel tanks started leaking oil in to the Bosporus. The ship continued its passage and finally anchored when it reached the Marmara Sea where the leaking tank was repaired. Following the accident, the strong surface current, rapidly transported the oil s...
1.0 ABSTRACT A suite of cockpit navigation displays for low-visibility taxi operations was developed by researchers at NASA Ames Research Center. The displays, called the Taxiway Navigation and Situation Awareness (T-NASA) system, were created using a humancentered design and evaluation approach that involved over 300 commercial pilots participating in part-task simulations, high-fidelity simul...
_______________________________________ The relative behavior of surface-crown fire spread rate modeling systems used in three fire management applications—CFIS (Crown Fire Initiation and Spread), FlamMap and NEXUS— is compared using fire environment characteristics derived from a dataset of destructively measured canopy fuel and associated stand characteristics. Although the surface-crown mode...
We calculate the vertical mass discharge rate from Mount St. Helens for the first few minutes of the May 18, 1980 cataclysmic eruption using a new method based on seismic constraints. The observed seismic waves indicate that the seismic source is a series of single forces. We model these forces as thrusts due to a combination of the momentum flux of the erupted products and the pressure of the ...
