This article is focused on the impact of different binder mixtures on the performances of paper surface and printability. The coating properties were studied with the chosen silica pigment, and the binder consisted of vinyl acetate copolymer and polyvinyl alcohol with different ratios, followed by the measurement of smoothness, whiteness, and surface strength. The inkjet image quality was asses...

We consider reheating after inflation with a non-standard kinetic term. We show that the difference in the kinetic term in different Hubble patches inherited from the long-wavelength moduli inhomogeneities may generate a significant level of non-Gaussianity after inflation.

We present a characterization of the approximation errors of the Post-Widder and the Gamma operators in Lp[0, ∞), 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞, with a weight x γ for any real γ. Two types of characteristics are used – weighted K-functionals of the approximated function itself and the classical fixed step moduli of smoothness taken on a simple modification of it.

We prove that the level sets of a real C function of two variables near a non-degenerate critical point are of class C [s/2] and apply this to the study of planar sections of surfaces close to the singular section by the tangent plane at an elliptic or hyperbolic point, and in particular at an umbilic point. We go on to use the results to study symmetry sets of the planar sections. We also anal...

Virtual calligraphic carving aims to generate 3D virtual carving works from 2D calligraphic images. This paper proposes a method of virtual calligraphic carving taking calligraphic carving work as a depth map composed of smoothness scalar field and brush-pressure distribution, which ensures the smoothness of carving surface and interprets the strength of calligraphy, respectively. On one hand, ...

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the importance of enhanced visual acuity in evaluation of polishing composite resins. Material and Methods: Forty-five composite samples were used. Finishing and polishing discs were used to produce samples with different surface roughness values (Ra). The observers examined the resin surfaces according to the following scale: 1: Smooth (0.01-0....

This paper summarises works carried out for defining tool trajectory formats well adapted to High Speed Machining (HSM). Advantages in using native polynomial formats, calculated directly from the CAD model, are highlighted. In particular, polynomial surface formats are presented as a generic format for tool trajectory. Illustrations show that surface formats represent a good compromise between...

A method for parametrizing discrete points sampled from a smooth shape and fitting a rational Gaussian surface to the points with a required accuracy is presented. With the proposed method, a very complex shape can be represented by a single surface, and the surface can be rendered at a desired level of detail by adjusting a smoothness parameter.

This paper considers the problem of segmenting an accurate and smooth surface from 3D volumetric images. Despite extensive studies in the past, the segmentation problem remains challenging in medical imaging, and becomes even harder in highly noisy and edge-weak images. In this paper we present a highly efficient graph-theoretical approach for segmenting a surface from 3D OCT images. Our approa...

Based on a vector-bundle formulation, we introduce a new family of nonlinear subdivision schemes for manifold-valued data. Any such nonlinear subdivision scheme is based on an underlying linear subdivision scheme. We show that if the underlying linear subdivision scheme reproduces Πk, then the nonlinear scheme satisfies an order k proximity condition with the linear scheme. We also develop a ne...
