Thus, development of intelligent algorithms and text analysis methods for d...

The paper reports on the results of an exploratory study into the topical organisation and stylistic features of argumentation in a corpus of ophthalmic clinical research papers. The study responds to the need for systematised and generalisable argumentation models in knowledgeintensive fields. We present here a schematised superstructure of the arguments from the corpus, charting the configura...

Our work addresses the automatic detection of paraphrastic reformulation in French spoken corpora. The proposed approach is syntagmatic. It is based on specific markers and the specificities of the spoken language. Manual multi-dimensional annotation performed by two annotators provides fine-grained reference data. An automatic method is proposed in order to decide whether sentences contain or ...

We describe the results of a syntactic-semantic parser for Cobuild dictionary definitions. Unlike previous work on the automatic analysis of machine readable dictionaries, the particular structure of the Cobuild definition allows us to derive information that classifies the lexical item mainly in terms of the selectional restrictions or preferences encoded on its arguments. The resulting formal...

Many languages have morphological devices to turn a noun into an adjective. Often this morphology is genuinely derivational in that it adds a semantic predicate such as ‘havingN’ (proprietive), ‘lacking-N’ (caritive’), ‘similar-to-N’ (similitudinal) and so on. In other cases the denominal adjective expresses some vaguely defined notion of possession as in Russian Ivan-ovo (detstvo) ‘Ivan’s (chi...

Lexical features are usually not found in the surface forms alone. Such features are used in many practical applications, and theories. This article shows that it is fairly easy to automatically invent lexical features from syntagmatic relations, without calculating any statistics of co-occurrence. Apart from being a plausible model of lexical acquisition, this model can be implemented efficien...

We present an account of analytic verb forms in a treebank of Czech texts. According to the Czech linguistic tradition, description of periphrastic constructions is a task for morphology. On the other hand, their components cannot be analyzed separately from syntax. We show how the paradigmatic and syntagmatic views can be represented within a single framework.

I n a well-structured Lexica] Data B a s e , a number of relations among lexica] entries can he interactively evidenced. The present article examines hyponymy, as an example of paradigmatic relation, and "restriction" relation, as a syntagmatic relation. The theoretical results of their implementation are illustrated.
