We report here the first synthesis of 5-phenyl-telluride-thymidine derivatives and the Te-phosphoramidite. We also report here the synthesis, structure and STM current-imaging studies of DNA oligonucleotides containing the nucleobases (thymine) derivatized with 5-phenyl-telluride functionality (5-Te). Our results show that the 5-Te-DNA is stable, and that the Te-DNA duplex has the thermo-stabil...
The tellurium atom in the title bis-ethynyl telluride, Te(C(9)H(7))(2) or C(18)H(14)Te, is located on a crystallographic twofold axis, the C-Te-C angle being 92.23 (15)°. The dihedral angle between the rings is 87.27 (7)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are connected in chains parallel to the b axis and mediated by C-H⋯π inter-actions.
We discuss selected aspects of a new parallel three-dimensional (3-D) computational tool for the unstructured mesh simulation of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) casting processes. This tool, known as Telluride, draws upon on robust, high resolution finite volume solutions of metal alloy mass, momentum, and enthalpy conservation equations to model the filling, cooling, and solidification o...
Cadmium telluride (CdTe) has been recognized as a promising photovoltaic material for thin-film solar cells because of its near optimum bandgap of ~1.5 eV and high absorption coefficient. The energy gap is near optimum for a single junction solar cell and the high absorption coefficient allows films as thin as 2 μm to absorb more than 98% of the above-bandgap radiation. Cells with efficiencies ...
The group 5 mixed-metal telluride, Hf(0.78)Ti(0.22)Te(5) (hafnium titanium penta-telluride), is isostructural with the binary phases HfTe(5) and ZrTe(5) and forms a layered structure extending parallel to (010). The layers are made up from chains of bicapped metal-centered trigonal prisms and zigzag Te chains. The metal site (site symmetry m2m) is occupied by statistically disordered Hf [78.1 (...
We have developed a pixellated high energy X-ray detector instrument to be used in a variety of imaging applications. The instrument consists of either a Cadmium Zinc Telluride or Cadmium Telluride (Cd(Zn)Te) detector bump-bonded to a large area ASIC and packaged with a high performance data acquisition system. The 80 by 80 pixels each of 250 μm by 250 μm give better than 1 keV FWHM energy reso...
Epitaxial growth of topological insulator bismuth telluride by molecular beam epitaxy onto BaF2 (111) substrates is studied using Bi2Te3 and Te as source materials. By changing the beam flux composition, different stoichiometric phases are obtained, resulting in high quality Bi2Te3 and Bi1Te1 epilayers as shown by Raman spectroscopy and high-resolution X-ray diffraction. From X-ray reciprocal s...
Over the last decade, cadmium telluride (CdTe) and cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) wide band gap semiconductors have attracted increasing interest as X-ray and gamma ray detectors. Among the traditional high performance spectrometers based on silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge), CdTe and CdZnTe detectors show high detection efficiency and good room temperature performance and are well suited for th...
The high processing cost, poor mechanical properties and moderate performance of Bi2Te3–based alloys used in thermoelectric devices limit the cost-effectiveness this energy conversion technology. Towards solving these current challenges, present work, we detail a low temperature solution-based approach to produce Bi2Te3-Cu2-xTe nanocomposites with improved performance. Our consists combining pr...
