OBJECTIVE The vertebral number is associated with body length and carcass traits, which represents an economically important trait in farm animals. The variation of vertebral number has been observed in a few mammalian species. However, the variation of vertebral number and quantitative trait loci in sheep breeds have not been well addressed. METHODS In our investigation, the information incl...
The anterior exposure of the upper thoracic spine using standard methods is often difficult and limited. We report our experience using a technique described by Sundaresan et al. (1984) in which the medial portion of one clavicle and part of the manubrium sterni are excised. In 10 cases we found this to be a useful and safe procedure.
PURPOSE To determine the biodistribution of Tc-99m labeled somatostatin receptor-binding peptide (Depreotide) on planar and SPECT studies of the thorax and upper abdomen in order to improve diagnostic accuracy. METHODS AND MATERIALS Retrospectively 29 planar and SPECT studies from 28 patients (all males, average age of 65.79) were reviewed. All the patients had been referred for evaluation of...
Here we examined the kinematic function of the morpho- logically unique first thoracic vertebra in giraffes. The first thoracic vertebra of the giraffe displayed similar shape to the seventh cervical vertebra in general ruminants. The flexion experiment using giraffe carcasses demonstrated that the first thoracic vertebra exhibited a higher dorsoventral mobility than other thoracic vertebrae. D...
Background: Although there are several reports of paralysis developing after aggravation of the deformities of congenital kyphosis or kyphoscoliosis, the onset of myelopathy in middle-aged patients is rare. Objective: To describe a case of late onset thoracic myelopathy in a patient with anterolateral fused vertebrae. The progression of kyphoscoliosis in this middle-aged patient preceded the on...
Total spondylectomy has been performed previously for tumour. In 1966 a complete vertebra (the fourth lumbar) affected by a giant-cell tumour was removed in a two-stage surgical procedure : the body of the vertebra was extirpated two weeks after excision of the posterior parts (Li#{232}vre,Darcy, Pradat, Camus, B#{233}nichou, Attali and Joublin 1968). In 1968, after laminectomy, all remaining p...
Objective- The aim of the present survey was to evaluate whether the results of cardiac measurements using the VHS are a useful indicator of the origin of normal rabbits. Design- Experimental study. Animals- Forty seven adult healthy New Zealand White rabbits (25 male, 22 female) with age 10-18 months and weight 1.5-2.5 Kg. Procedures- To assess the influence of breed on the vertebral heart ...
Objectives- To provide a reference anatomy of the thoracic cavity vessels of the Rayini goat by using Computed tomography. Design- Experimented study. Animals- Five healthy Rayini goat. Procedures- Spiral CT images (with and without contrast media) were acquired from the thoracic region perpendicular to long axis of the body. CT windows were adjusted as necessary to have optimized images of ...
A 50-year-old man experienced cardiac arrest. The patient underwent standard cardiopulmonary resuscitative measures for approximately 20 minutes before spontaneous circulation returned. He was diagnosed with variant angina, and subsequent imaging for evaluation of upper back pain revealed fractures of the fifth through eighth thoracic vertebrae. Multiple thoracic vertebral fractures are extreme...
