We present an adult patient who had an acute myocardial infarction complicated by a ventricular septal defect and had it repaired percutaneously. Real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT3D) before and during the closure procedure were performed. RT3D provided anatomical and functional information of the defect as well as real-time guidance during the procedure. This case highlights the ...

We report a facile synthesis of bifunctional Fe3O4-Ag(125)I heterodimers for use as dual-modality imaging agents in magnetic resonance (MR) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). We introduced (125)I, which is a clinically used radioisotope, as a SPECT reporter, into Fe3O4-Ag heterodimer nanoparticles to provide a new type of bifunctional contrast agent for MRI and SPECT imaging.

Classic cor triatriatum is rarely found in adults. Preoperative assessment of classic cor triatriatum in a 22 year old man without symptoms by three dimensional echocardiography was more informative than transoesophageal echocardiography or magnetic resonance imaging, which both showed only a small hole in the membrane separating the accessory atrium from the true left atrium. The size of the h...

Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology allows for the translation of a 2-dimensional medical imaging study into a physical replica of a patient’s individual anatomy. 3D printed models can facilitate a deeper understanding of complex patient anatomy and can aid in presurgical decision-making. Although there are 3D printing case reports in almost every subspecialty of medicine to date, the ra...

background and aims. because of increasing concerns about surgeries in the anterior maxilla, including implant placement, it is necessary to examine the morphology of the nasopalatine canal and its surrounding bones. this study aimed to analyze the shape and position of the nasopalatine canal and incisive foramen using cone-beam computed tomography (cbct). materials and methods. cbct images of ...

Cone beam CT (CBCT) is a relatively new imaging modality, which is now widely available to dentists for examining hard tissues in the dental and maxillofacial regions. CBCT gives a three-dimensional depiction of anatomy and pathology, which is similar to medical CT and uses doses generally higher than those used in conventional dental imaging. The European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiolog...

In the paper by Sayre [Acta Cryst. (2008), A64, 33-35], a proposal is made to use stereoscopy as a short-term means of overcoming the primarily technological hurdles involved in three-dimensional imaging of the biological cell by soft X-ray diffraction microscopy. This addendum provides a broader perspective on the techniques used by this rapidly maturing community to investigate structural pro...
