This communication reports morphological studies of a novel C(3)-symmetric thiolated, tren-based ditryptophan conjugate. The exposed thiol groups on the soft structures interacted with gold nanoparticles and mediated the release of encapsulated fluorescent dye, when exposed to natural sunlight.

New coordination complexes of the neutral tripodal tetra-amine Me(6)TREN with tBu(3)Ga or tBu(2)Zn have been synthesised and studied with their molecular structures revealing, for the first time, coordination to metal centres via an η(1) or η(2) mode, adding to previously reported η(3) and η(4) ligated examples.

Structural analysis of sulfate complexes of two different azacryptands crystallized under identical conditions in the presence of methanol and water reveals that one methanol is selectively trapped in each cavity, assisted by the specific arrangements of three external sulfates close to one tren unit.

The kinetics of activation of RX by a Cu(I) complex has been investigated in MeCN both in the absence and presence of halide ions. The system Cu(I)/L/X(-) (L = Me(6)TREN) is mainly composed of Cu(I)L(+), XCu(I)L and Cu(I)X(2)(-), but only Cu(I)L(+) is found to be an active catalyst reacting with RX.
