In Neurospora crassa, unpaired genes are silenced by a mechanism called meiotic silencing by unpaired DNA (MSUD). Although some RNA interference proteins are necessary for this process, its requirement of small RNAs has yet to be formally established. Here we report the characterization of small RNAs targeting an unpaired region, using Illumina sequencing.

Method: It was performed a cross-sectional study of 120 healthy pregnant women at low risk, including 77 primigravidae and 43 multigravidae. The PEF was measured by spirometry and the body composition by multisegmental electrical impedance. The unpaired t test was used to compare the groups and the Pearson correlation test was used to determine the association between PEF and independent variab...

During meiotic prophase in male mammals, the X and Y chromosomes are incorporated in the XY body. This heterochromatic body is transcriptionally silenced and marked by increased ubiquitination of histone H2A. This led us to investigate the relationship between histone H2A ubiquitination and chromatin silencing in more detail. First, we found that ubiquitinated H2A also marks the silenced X chro...

We have used bandshift analysis to measure the interaction between the Escherichia coli mismatch-binding protein MutS and synthetic DNA fragments containing all possible DNA mismatches as well as an unpaired T (DeltaT). The order of affinity is found to be DeltaT>GT>GG>AA approximately TT approximately TC>CA>GA>CC>GC. We find that the affinity for GT mismatches is affected by the flanking seque...

Methods Blood was collected for PTEN mutation analysis and medical records were requested to document diagnoses. Patients who are PTEN+ with ≥5 GI polyps, ≥1 of which is hyperplastic (hyp) or hamartomatous (ham, n=4) or who met relaxed ICC criteria (n=118) were analyzed. Upper and lower GI endoscopy and pathology reports were reviewed and findings are reported descriptively. Fisher’s 2-tailed e...

stimuli was not significantly different between TRN and SED hearts (P > 0.05 unpaired t-test n = 9-10). We suggest that despite the occurrence of both cardiac hypertrophy and electrical remodelling in response to voluntary exercise, these changes do not pre-dispose the exercise trained heart to arrhythmias. Our findings are consistent with the overall beneficial effect of mild exercise on the h...

Ferrocenylcarbodiimide (1), which is known to react with a guanine (G) or thymine (T) base of single stranded DNA, was allowed to react with DNA duplex having a single mismatched base pair of G-T, T-T, or T-cytosine (C). Electrophoreograms of the reaction mixture showed that 1 could react with G or T base of the mismatched sites on the DNA duplex. However, 1 also reacted with the G base of the ...
