This paper reports an empirical exploration of how different configurations of collaboration technology affect peoples’ ability to construct and maintain common ground while conducting collaborative intelligence analysis work. Prior studies of collaboration technology have typically focused on simpler conversational tasks, or ones that involve physical manipulation, rather than the complex sens...

The author traces developments in computer art worldwide from 1965, when the first computer art exhibitions were held by scientists, through succeeding periods in which artists collaborated with scientists to create computer programs for artistic purposes. The end of the first decade of computer art was marked by economic, technological and programming advances that allowed artists more direct ...

In recent years, scientific and technological advances have produced artificial systems that have matched or surpassed human capabilities in narrow domains such as face detection and optical character recognition. However, the problem of producing truly intelligent machines still remains far from being solved. In this chapter, we first describe some of these recent advances, and then review one...

This paper reports some achievements made under the ARC1/94 project funded by the Ministry of Education (Singapore). These include: (1) The development of a theoretical framework for robotic hand-eye coordination with uncalibrated cameras; (2) The development of a deterministic solution for robotic head-eye coordination; (3) The development of a simple and practical solution for ground plane ob...

Scenes The visual question-answering task requires a variety of skills. The machine must be able to understand the image, interpret the question, and reason about the answer. For many researchers exploring AI, they may not be interested in exploring the low-level tasks involved with perception and computer vision. Many of the questions may even be impossible to solve given the current capabilit...

The embodiment approach suggests that processes in the body influence cognitive performance. Due to this in the present study, female patients with high body awareness-elite athletes and patients with Anorexia Nervosaas well as healthy controls performed a mental rotation task with different kinds of stimuli. Mental rotation is the ability to imagine objects from different perspectives. The res...

Latest advances in hardware technology and state of the art of computer vision and arti, cial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. The paper proposes a multi-agent architecture for the understanding of scene dynamics merging the information streamed by multiple cameras. A typical application would be the monitoring of a secure site, or a...

In this paper we discuss various aspects in intelligence analysis relating to provenance and the new requirements resulting from the changed nature of terrorist activities. We propose a three-layer provenance model which relates the scope of provenance to the intelligence workflow and the idea of a ’provenance reasoning workspace’ for integrating provenance information into visual analytic tools.
