We propose a concept of intraday overreaction characterized by intraday price movements which are corrected within the same trading day. It is a concept of relative overreaction in the sense that the price range within a trading day is large in comparison with the openclose return volatility. As a one-sided concept it allows to distinguish between upward and downward overreaction. A test for ov...
the emphasis of this paper is the role of volatility indices on improvement artificial neural networks (anns) forecasting models for the daily usd/eur and usd/gbp exchange rates two volatility indices are used. first; the realized volatility, which is based on intra-daily data, and second the garch volatility. they are applied into the model in two ways. firstly, the lagged volatility index is ...
This study extends the dynamic conditional correlation model to allow day-specific correlations of shocks across international stock markets. The properties of the resulting periodic dynamic conditional correlation (PDCC) model are examined, with the model then applied to study the intra-week interactions between six developed European stock markets and the US over the period 1993 2005. We find...

This paper studies the consequences of opening asset markets more often for the properties of asset prices and social welfare. For all reasonable parameter values, increasing trading hours lowers average asset prices, increases unconditional asset price volatility at a given point in time, and decreases unconditional asset price volatility when averaged over the period of time that includes the...

We review the literature on return and cash flow growth predictability form the perspective of the present-value identity. We focus predominantly on recent work. Our emphasis is on U.S. aggregate stock return predictability, but we also discuss evidence from other asset classes and countries. JEL classification: G10, G12, G14, G35.
It is shown that the absence of call spread, butterfly spread and calendar spread arbitrages is sufficient to exclude all static arbitrages from a set of option price quotes across strikes and maturities on a single underlier. 2005 Elsevier Inc. We compare capital requirements derived by tail conditional expectation (TCE) with those derived by tail conditional median (TCM) and find that there is no clear-cut relationship between these two measures in empirical data. Our results highlight the relevance of TCM as a robust alternative to TCE, especially for regulatory control. JEL Classification: G10, G11, G23, G29
We use a stock-market game and predictions of examination marks to examine differences between overconfidence and biased self-attribution (BSA) of British and Asian students. Although different overconfidence measures show little correlation, Asians are consistently more overconfident than the British. All are equally prone to BSA. © 2007 Elsevier Inc.
