This paper investigates several routing methods for WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks under dynamic traffic load. We evaluate the impact of wavelength conversion (including partial conversion) on the network blocking probability. Moreover, the influence on network performance of priority scheduling for various routing parameters is investigated.

In Wavelength Division Multiplexing based Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON), multiple wavelength used to separate Optical Network Unit (ONU). Which actually increase the capacity of PON . WDM process can be dense and ultra-dense depending on channel spacing. In this paper we compare performance of Array Waveguide Grating Demultiplexer (AWG DEMUX) and Fiber Bragg Grating based Demultiplexer (FBG...

The idea of the asynchronous transmission in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) ring MANs is studied in this paper. Especially, we present an efficient access technique to coordinate the collisions-free transmission of the variable sizes of IP traffic in WDM ring core networks. Each node is equipped with a tunable transmitter and a tunable receiver. In this way, all the wavelengths are expl...

Photonic networking technologies have the potential to revolutionise future military aircraft data communications, delivering substantial improvements in networking performance, reliability, cost and security. More particularly, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) can provide a huge bandwidth-to-weight ratio as well as enhanced routing flexibility, connectivity and network survivability. In ...

The current λ-switching technology requires each lightpath to occupy the full bandwidth of a wavelength throughout the bufferless all-optical domain. With such a constraint, the granularity of bandwidth is so coarse that the utilization of optical fibers is considerably low. To resolve the granularity problem, a simple way is to incorporate time division multiplexing (TDM) into wavelength divis...

Reliability has been widely recognized as an important issue in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks. In order to accommodate a connection request, an active path (AP) has to be computed for the connection request. In case of a single AP cannot meet the reliability requirement, certain backup resources have to be allocated to the connection request such that the required reliability ...

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) switching has been emerging as the dominant technology in optical networks. In this paper, we study the switching performance of WDM optical packet switch (OPS) equipped with tunable wavelength converter sharing dedicated to each output fiber line under self-similar variable packet length traffic. In this study, we model WDM OPS employing tunable wavelengt...

In wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream can be much lower than the capacity of a lightpath. Efficiently grooming low-speed connections onto high-capacity lightpaths will improve the network throughput and reduce the network cost. In WDM/SONET ring networks, it has been shown in the optical network literature that by carefully groomin...

This paper investigates the theoretical performance analysis for a subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical transmission system in presence of optical beat interference (OBI) which occurs during the photo detection process. We have presented a comparison for improving the performance of SCM-WDM system in presence of OBI. Non-return-to zero (NRZ), Manchester an...

Recently, there has been growing interest in developing optical ber networks to support the increasing bandwidth demands of multimedia applications, such as video conferencing and World Wide Web browsing. One technique for accessing the huge bandwidth available in an optical ber is wavelengthdivision multiplexing (WDM). Under WDM, the optical ber bandwidth is divided into a number of non-overla...
