We show that an x-tight set of the Hermitian polar spaces H(4, q2) and H(6, q2) respectively, is the union of x disjoint generators of the polar space provided that x is small compared to q. For H(4, q2) we need the bound x < q + 1 and we can show that this bound is sharp.

We introduce several recursive constructions for caps in projective spaces. These generalize the known constructions in an essential way and lead to new large caps in many cases. Among our results we mention the construction of {(q + 1)(q2 + 3)}−caps in PG(5, q), of {q4 + 2q2}-caps in PG(6, q) and of q2(q2 + 1)2-caps in PG(9, q).

For each odd prime power q, let 4 ≤ n ≤ q2 + 1. Hermitian self-orthogonal [n, 2, n − 1] codes over GF (q2) with dual distance three are constructed by using finite field theory. Hence, [[n,n − 4, 3]]q quantum MDS codes for 4 ≤ n ≤ q2 + 1 are obtained.

Theoretical description of the spin dependent structure function g1(x,Q) in the region of low values of x and Q2 is presented. It contains the Vector Meson Dominance contribution and the QCD improved parton model suitably extended to the low Q2 domain.
