We investigate the possibility of a large Bs-B̄s mixing phase in the context of grand unified theory (GUT) models, e.g., SO(10) and SU(5). The title compound, [Fe(η(5)-C(5)H(5))(NH(2)CH(2)CHBrCH(2)Br)(CO)(2)](BF(4)) contains an Fe(II) cation with a three-legged piano-stool coordination. The NH(2)CH(2)CHBrCH(2)Br ligand contains a chiral carbon atom. The Fe-N bond length is 2.011 (3) Å and the Fe-Cp centroid distance is 1.7189 (5) Å. In the crystal, the ions are linked via two N-H⋯F inter-actions and a weak N-H⋯Br inter-action.

In the title compound, C(16)H(18)Cl(2)N(+)·Br(-), the dihedral angle between the aromatic ring planes is 57.73 (5)°. In the absence of any strong hydrogen bonds, the structure results from a large number of competing weaker inter-actions including Cl⋯Cl [3.4610 (5) Å] and C-H⋯Cl contacts and both (aryl) C-H⋯Br and N(+)-Csp(3)-H⋯Br(-) cation-anion inter-actions.

In the title compound, C(6)H(5)N(2) (+)·Br(-), the pyridine N atom is protonated and involved in an inter-molecular N-H⋯Br hydrogen bond which, together with weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, results in the formation of a chain along the c axis. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Br inter-actions between pyridine H atoms and Br(-) anions connect these chains into a network parallel to the bc plane.
