A 25-year-old patient with acrodermatitis enteropathica who had been treated with di-iodohydroxyquinoline for 20 years was changed to zinc sulphate therapy and studied under full metabolic balance control for zinc, calcium, magnesium, and inorganic phosphorus. The results obtained indicate that there is only a small overall deficit of body zinc stores in this disease and that the function of di...
As food allergies become increasingly prevalent and testing methods to identify “food allergy” increase in number, the importance of careful diagnosis has become even more critical. Misdiagnosis of food allergy and inappropriate use of unproven testing modalities may lead to a harmful food-elimination diet. This case is an example of an infant who was placed on an overly restrictive elimination...
Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau (ACH) is a rare form of pustular psoriasis, mainly affecting distal phalanges of hands and feet. Many therapeutic options exist; however, it tends to be resistant to treatment. We report a 26-year-old man presented with a very severe psoriatic arthritis associated with ACH. Although this patient was resistant to a first line treatment (glucocorticoids and me...
We describe homotopy classes of self-homeomorphisms of solenoids and Knaster continua. In particular, we demonstrate that homeomorphisms within one homotopy class have the same (explicitly given) topological en-tropy and that they are actually semi-conjugeted to an algebraic homeomor-phism in the case when the entropy is positive.
Acrodermatitis enteropathica is the clinical expression of congenital zinc deficiency and is now treated with supplemental zinc. This report details the ocular histopathology of a child who died before efficacious treatment was available. The findings include corneal epithelial thinning and loss of polarity, anterior corneal scarring and loss of Bowman's membrane, cataract formation, ciliary bo...
Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau (ACH) is an uncommon inflammatory disease manifesting as sterile pustular eruption of the fingers and toes. The disease is of a chronic relapsing nature and is often refractory to treatment. With longstanding disease, osteitis with consequent bone resorption of the underlying phalanges can occur, leading to disability. While the incidence of ACH is rare in c...
, 1056–1057 © 2008 The International Society of Dermatology 1056 A male full-term infant, who had been exclusively breast-fed since birth, at 2 months of age developed an erythematous, scaling eruption involving the face (in a periorificial distribution, i.e. mouth, nose, ears, and eyes), hands, and feet, which did not respond to treatment with topical corticosteroids and oral antimicrobials. H...
Acrodermatitis enteropathica which is a manifestation of zinc deficiency, is rarely seen in breast-fed infants. A child with typical acral rash, zinc deficiency and low breast milk zinc levels is described. The importance of awareness of this entity in breast-fed infants along with differential diagnosis is being emphasized.
Acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE) is a rare disorder associated with poor absorption of zinc. A variety of clinical and histological findings have been reported in the literature, described mainly in isolated case reports. Because of the varied nature of these cases, the histological features of AE are described often as non-specific. We describe lesions of AE in two patients who presented with...
