BACKGROUND Adenosquamous carcinoma is an uncommon cutaneous malignant neoplasm with mixed glandular and squamous differentiation and a propensity for aggressive clinical behavior. OBSERVATIONS Of 27 patients diagnosed as having adenosquamous carcinoma, 19 were men and 5 were immunosuppressed. The mean age was 74 years. The majority of tumors were located on the face and scalp (19 of 27 [70%])...
Metaplastic Breast Carcinoma (MBC) is one among the rare types of breast carcinoma. MBC was recognised as a separate entity by World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2020. According to WHO, metaplastic carcinoma classified into six based on histology which includes: low grade adenosquamous carcinoma; fibromatosis like squamous cell spindle with heterologous mesenchymal differentiation; and mixed ca...
Primary cutaneous adenosquamous carcinomas are very rare entities with only few published reports in literature. We describe a primary cutaneous adenosquamous carcinoma found in the occipital region of a 53 year old man with a pediculated tumor of 7 cm in diameter and an ulcerated, verrucous aspect with serous exudations. There was no clinical or radiologic evidence of invasion of the cranial v...
A rectal carcinoma, including primary an adenosquamous and a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), is a very rare disease, accounting for 0.025% to 0.20% of all large-bowel malignant tumors. Because SCCs have a higher mortality than adenosquamous carcinomas, determining whether the primary rectal cancer exhibits an adenomatous component or a squamous component is important. While differentiating betwe...
Adenosquamous lung carcinoma (AdSqLC) has a worse prognosis than adenocarcinoma (ADC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SQCC). Micropapillary pattern in lung ADC is an additional poor prognostic factor. We describe a rare case of AdSqLC with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation in both the micropapillary-ADC and SQCC components, showing long-term response to gefitinib. A 60-year-old woman...
Primary adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the liver, a variant of cholangiocarcinoma is very rare disease and its prognosis is known to be very poor. We describe here a case of primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the liver. The patient was a 60-year-old woman who complained of an eight-month history of intermittent upper abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a low density mas...
We present a patient with three lung cancers composed of adenosquamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Marked response was obtained in squamous cell carcinoma components following chemotherapy, but not in adenocarcinoma components. Even multiple malignant lesions of the lung might have a chance to be controlled by a combination of chemotherapy and surgery.
Background: Lung cancer most common worldwide cancer, early diagnosis makes effective treatment in lung cancer. Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) for non-gynae specimens has gained popularity over conventional Cytology (CS) during last one decade because of increased sensitivity and specificity. Aim and objectives: To assess the diagnostic utility of LBC versus CS in fine needle aspirates of lung and...
BACKGROUND Human papillomaviruses (HPV) types 16 and 18 are clearly involved in the etiology of cervical cancer, but the evidence for the carcinogenicity of other HPV types is limited. Cofactors involved in the progression from infection with HPV to high-grade precursors and cancer have not been clearly defined by the results of previous studies. METHODS We conducted a hospital-based, case-co...
1.3.1. Histopathologic types (according to World Health Organization/ International Society of Gynecological Pathology classification) All tumors are to be microscopically verified. The histopathologic types are: • Endometrioid carcinoma: adenocarcinoma; adenoacanthoma (adenocarcinoma with squamous metaplasia); and adenosquamous carcinoma (mixed adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma). • Mu...
