Background Food allergic patients at risk for severe reactions should carry an epinephrine auto-injector (EAI). This treatment entails a burden for them and therefore may affect their compliance. Although the burden of treatment of an EAI has previously been shown to be high in vespid allergic patients, this has not yet been studied in food allergic patients. Therefore we determined the overall...

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System has received reports of allergic reactions following immunization with egg-free recombinant influenza vaccine, among patients with a self-reported egg allergy or previous allergic reaction to inactivated influenza vaccine. These results suggest that allergic reactions following influenza vaccination are not necessarily related to egg proteins.

Asthma and allergic diseases cases have risen in recent decades. Plant pollen is considered as the main aeroallergen causing allergic reactions. According to available data, urban residents experience more respiratory allergies than rural residents mainly due to the interaction between chemical air pollutants and pollen grains. This interaction can occur through several mechanisms; chemical pol...

Usage of cancer chemotherapeutics drugs can be associated with adverse drug reactions. When IgE-mediated drug reactions are formed following administration of a chemotherapeutic drug that is a drug of choice, drug desensitization protocols can be helpful. Hypersensitivity reactions can be allergic or nonallergic, but the clinical manifestations are similar. Rapid drug desensitization (RDD) is e...

Allergic reactions to antibiotics are more common in cystic fibrosis (CF) than in the general population. This in part is due to the improving survival in adults with CF and the increased use of high dose intravenous antibiotics. While some are immediate anaphylaxis type (IgE mediated) reactions, the majority are late onset and may have nonspecific features such as rash and fever. Piperacillin ...

Adverse reactions to medications prescribed or administered in dental practice can be worrying. Most of these reactions are somewhat predictable based on the pharmacodynamic properties of the drug. Others, such as allergic and pseudoallergic reactions, are generally unpredictable and unrelated to normal drug action. This article will review immune and nonimmune-mediated mechanisms that account ...
