Although considerable evidence indicates a role for atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) in renal salt regulation, other studies have found a lack of natriuretic response to high-plasma ANF under certain physiological and pathophysiological conditions. The mechanism for this apparent insensitivity to ANF is unknown. In the present study, it was found that ANF binding to its receptor requires the pre...

We sought to demonstrate a hypotensive effect from infusions of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) into humans and to describe the mechanism(s) of this effect. Cardiovascular and hormonal responses to human ANF-(99-126) (125 ng/kg bolus followed by a 30-minute infusion at 25 ng/kg/min) were determined in eight conscious volunteers and compared with responses of eight time-control subjects who rece...

A significant diuretic and natriuretic response occurs during paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). Although the diuresis may be secondary to suppression of vasopressin secretion, the etiology of the natriuresis remains unexplained. To determine if atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) could contribute to the polyuric response during SVT, 10 patients were studied: five during spontaneous SVT...

To elucidate the molecular mechanism of the vascular action of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), we investigated the effects of synthetic ANF and sodium nitroprusside on the levels of intracellular cyclic nucleotides and prostacyclin (measured as its stable metabolite 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha) in cultured vascular smooth muscle cells from rat mesenteric artery and, in some experiments, from...

The natriuretic effects of atrial peptide hormones have been attributed, at least in part, to their stimulation of guanylate cyclase activity in renal cell membranes. The effects of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) on stimulation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) accumulation were investigated in cloned human kidney tumor (hKT) cells and parent ce...

This paper propose a new complex adaptive notch Þlter (ANF) structure based on the Steiglitz-McBride (SM) method. Recursive least square (RLS) algorithm is applied to the proposed ANF with optimized stepsize. Simulations show that RLS-SM ANF converges fast and requires less computational complexity than the conventional ANF using recursive prediction error (RPE) algorithm.

Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) (1 microM) markedly increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) content in microdissected glomeruli (35-fold) and in microdissected inner medullary collecting ducts (IMCD) (20-fold). ANF caused little or no increase in cGMP content in other nephron segments. The threshold concentration for increased cGMP accumulation by ANF was 0.1-1 nM in IMCD, which is in t...

Whether atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) plays a physiological role in primary aldosteronism has yet to be determined. In the present study, the renal, hemodynamic, humoral, and vascular effects of a synthetic (WY-47663) human analogue were studied in five water-loaded (15 ml H2O/kg) patients with adenomatous primary aldosteronism, a salt-sensitive, low renin, volume-expanded syndrome. ANF was i...

We previously demonstrated that vascular smooth muscle cells possess a prominent Na+-K+-Cl- cotransport system that can be markedly stimulated by elevations in levels of intracellular cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP). Since others have shown that atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) can bind to specific membrane receptors and can enhance cGMP levels in vascular smooth muscle cells, we ask...
