The anthelmintic activity of the eugenol against the fish parasite Gyrodactylus sp. was evaluated. After 1-h exposure to 5 and 10 mg/L eugenol, mortality of the parasites was near 80 and 90%, respectively. The concentrations used in the antiparasitic test were not toxic to Daphnia pulex (LC50 42.5 mg/L).

OZ277 is a newly developed, fully synthetic endoperoxide antimalarial that we tested against field isolates from Gabon. A comparison of activities of OZ277 with artesunate, mefloquine, and chloroquine showed OZ277 to be highly active against all parasite isolates. Artesunate and mefloquine also showed potent antiparasitic activity, but all isolates were chloroquine resistant.

A total of 39 endophytic fungi have been isolated from Viguiera arenaria and Tithonia diversifolia, both collected in São Paulo State, Brazil. The isolates were identified based on their ribosomal DNA sequences. The ethyl acetate (EtOAc) extracts of all endophytic fungi were evaluated for their antimicrobial, antiparasitic and antitumoral activity. Antimicrobial screening was conducted using an...

Ivermectin (MK-0933, 22, 23-dihydroderivative of amvermectin B1) is a synthetic derivative of a broadspectrum antiparasitic class of macro cyclic lactones known as avermectins. Avermectin B was first isolated by fermentation of a soil microorganism, the actinomycete Streptomyces avermitilis. Ivermectin has a structure similar to that of macrolide antibiotics, but without antibacterial activity ...

Different concentrations of the methanolic extractable portion of Strebulus asper were tested for antiparasitic activity and 20 mg / 100 ml of the drug solution was found to be most effective. The effect of methanol extract at different concentrations on tissues components like glycogen, total fat, total protein, RNA and DNA showed that the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism of Setaria is affect...

Infections of Plasmodium berghei in mice was stopped by azithromycin which was administered orally in dosages of 100mg/kg, for 28 days. This antibiotic was given since the same day that the animals were infected. The outcome suggests the necessity of more investigations on this antiparasitic activity.

As part of our efforts aimed at searching for new antiparasitic agents, the effect of representative 2-alkylaminoethyl-1,1-bisphosphonic acids on Trypanosoma cruzi squalene synthase (TcSQS) was investigated. These compounds had proven to be potent inhibitors of T. cruzi. This cellular activity had been associated with an inhibition of the enzymatic activity of T. cruzi farnesyl diphosphate synt...

We have previously reported that curcumin analogs with a C7 linker bearing a C4-C5 olefinic linker with a single keto group at C3 (enone linker) display midnanomolar activity against the bloodstream form of Trypanosoma brucei. However, no clear indication of their mechanism of action or superior antiparasitic activity relative to analogs with the original di-ketone curcumin linker was apparent....

The antiparasitic activity of the drupe extracts of Melia azedarach L. (Meliaceae) growing in Argentina was tested against a tapeworm and an earthworm, showing to be better against tapeworms than the standard piperazine phosphate, which is used in the treatment of Cestoda infections.
