Twenty-four male weanling rats were randomly divided into two treatment groups, namely a copper-adequate (8 mg Cu/kg diet) or a copper-deficient (0.85 mg Cu/kg diet) group. Feed and distilled, deionized water were provided ad libitum. After 7 weeks, plasma lipid, protein and apolipoprotein concentrations of high density lipoproteins (HDL) and subfractions of HDL were determined. Significant ele...

Background/Aims Changes in lipid profiles in patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) during direct-acting antiviral therapy have been reported in recent years. However, the clinical aspects of disturbed lipid metabolism in chronic HCV infection have not been fully elucidated. Methods Dynamic changes in serum total, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) chole...

The association serum lipids, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins between angiographically defined coronary artery disease (CAD) was evaluated in 251 Indian men and women in order to assess the predictive power of apolipoproteins as a 'marker' of coronary artery disease (CAD). Patients with 70% or greater narrowing of at least one coronary artery or 50% stenosis of the left main coronary artery (...

In this study we have investigated the effects of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) lipolysis on the removal of radiolabeled apolipoprotein C-II and apolipoprotein C-III-1 from in vitro lipolyzed lipoproteins. Lipolysis was carried out in vitro using lipoprotein lipase purified from bovine milk, and mixtures with or without plasma. Lipoproteins were isolated by ultracentrifugation and by gel ...

It was found that the inhibition of the lysosomal acid lipase activity by rat apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) was increased with the degradation of apo A-I by the lysosomal proteases. We demonstrated that apo A-I could effectively inhibit the acid lipase activity even in the presence of the lysosomal proteases using the hepatic lysosomal fraction.

Apolipoprotein B (apo B) is the integral apolipoprotein of chylomicrons, very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), intermediate-density and low-density lipoproteins. It is heterogeneous, occurring in two forms. In humans, the larger apo B-100 is formed by the liver in VLDL and the smaller apo B-48 is produced by the intestines in chylomicrons. In the rat, apo B-48 is also found in liver VLDL. Lee e...

Apolipoprotein A-IV (apo A-IV), a peptide expressed by enterocytes in the mammalian small intestine and released in response to long-chain triglyceride absorption, may be involved in the regulation of gastric acid secretion and gastric motility. The specific aim of the present study was to determine the pathway involved in mediating inhibition of gastric motility produced by apo A-IV. Gastric m...

The complete amino acid sequence of apolipoprotein A-I (apo-A-I) from canine serum high density lipoproteins (HLD) has been determined by automated Edman degradation of the intact protein and proteolytic fragments derived therefrom. The major strategy involved analysis of overlapping sets of peptides generated by cleavage at lysyl residues with Myxobacter protease and by tryptic hydrolysis at a...

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a quantitative genetic trait that in the general population is largely controlled by 1 major locus-the locus for the apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)] gene. Sibpair studies in families including familial defective apolipoprotein B or familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) heterozygotes have demonstrated that, in addition, mutations in apolipoprotein B and in the LDL receptor (LDL...

Apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)], an apolipoprotein unique to lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], is highly polymorphic in size. Previous studies have indicated that the size of the apo(a) gene tends to be inversely correlated with the plasma level of Lp(a). However, several exceptions to this general trend have been identified. Individuals with apo(a) alleles of identical size do not always have similar plasma ...
