[1] Two fore‐arc magmatic belts exist in Kodiak Island, the granitic Kodiak batholith and the basaltic trenchward belt. Both are part of the 2100 km long Sanak‐Baranof belt, interpreted to result from trench‐ridge‐trench (T‐R‐T) triple‐junction migration. In this hypothesis, trenchward belt basaltic rocks formed as the spreading ridge first entered the accretionary prism, and the larger Kodiak ...
This article is designed primarily to inform clients that new 1:50 000 scale maps are currently being completed for the Findlay-Doctor Creek area (Figure IO1). A summary of preliminary results is presented for the Findlay Industrial Partnership Project after completion of three weeks of fieldwork in the Dewar and Findlay creeks map areas (82F/16, 82Wl) during 1997. The focus of the project is t...
Rocks exposed west of the Coast Plutonic Complex in southern southeast Alaska form an imbricate thrust belt that overprints the tectonic boundary between two of the largest allochthonous crustal fragments in the North American Cordillera, the Insular and Intermontane composite terranes. In the Alexander terrane (Insular composite terrane), lower Paleozoic metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks ...
The Karmozd coal mine in Mazandaran Province (Iran) is one of the largest and oldest active coal mines in Central Alborze Coal Basin. A complete geochemistry and mineralogy characterization of Karnozd coal has been conducted in summer, 2005 by sampling of coal, coal tailing and country rock coal Basin. The coal layers (Lias) is embedded in the middle of Karmozd litostratigraphic unit. It is comp...
Fulvic acids from deep clay formations have been isolated by the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) standard protocol and analyzed. Near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy reveals, that the basic structural features relating to the origin of the clay organic matter (i.e., terrestrial or marine) are preserved even after the around 150 Ma since deposition (Juras...
Approximately 800 ft. of continuous core was recovered from borehole SB-15 D (on unit 15, near the site of the abandoned Geysers Resort) during a recently completed drilling operation funded by the USDOE. Sections of this core were collected at 50 ft intervals for subsequent examination as drilling proceeded. Five foot sections were not removed at the drill site, but were sealed in the innermos...
introduction oolitic iron formations are sedimentary rocks with >5 vol.% oolites and >15 wt.% iron, corresponding to 21.4 wt.% fe2o3 (young, 1989; petranek and van houten, 1997; mucke and farshad, 2005). in iran, new iron oolite-bearing members have been identified in the lashkarak formation (lower-middle ordovician) in the abarsej, dehmola and simehkuh sections, eastern alborz (ghobadi pour et...
We have individually analyzed twelve black and seven yellow glasses from the K/T boundary section at Beloc, Haiti, plus three smectite mantles around black glasses. The main chemical differences between black and yellow glasses are higher S, Ca, Mg, Zn, As, Br, Sb, and Au, but lower K, Na, and Si abundances in the yellow glasses. We have found high-CaO yellow glasses with low S contents (0.08, ...
