To develop an effective technology for conversion of inorganic arsenic to methylated organic compounds by using microorganisms, we have searched microorganisms the methylation ability that are adequately applicable detoxification process. As a result, isolated arsenic-methylating bacteria Cellulomonas sp. K31.

Novel hyper-resistant bacteria were isolated from the Crven Dol mine (Allchar, North Macedonia), arsenic-rich extreme environment. Bacteria recovered a secondary mineral mixture, an alteration of hydrothermal realgar rich in arsenates (pharmacolite, hornesite, and talmessite). The sample was dark part at 28 m depth. Three bacterial strains consortium for their capacity to survive exposure 32 g/...

This survey focusing on the identification and characterization of the bacteria inhabiting the arsenic (As) and lead (Pb) contaminated regions near the industrial zone of the eastern coast of the Nile valley at Beni-Suef, Egypt. The preliminary results showed that the Arsenic and Lead recorded high levels of contamination (ranging from 4.88-68.8 mg/kg of dry soil for arsenic and 13.6-242.12 mg/...

The prediction and assessment of environmental pollution by arsenic are important preconditions of advocating environmental protection and human health risk assessment. A yellow fluorescent protein-based whole-cell biosensor for the detection of arsenite and arsenate was constructed and tested. An arsenic-resistant promoter and the regulatory gene arsR were obtained by PCR from the genome of Es...

In Listeria monocytogenes serotype 4b isolates from sporadic listeriosis, heavy metal resistance was primarily encountered in certain clonal groups (ECI, ECII, and ECIa). All arsenic-resistant isolates harbored the arsenic resistance cassette previously identified in pLI100; ECIa harbored additional arsenic resistance genes and a novel cadmium resistance determinant in a conserved chromosomal l...

To understand the arsenic biogeocycles in the groundwaters at Tucumán, Argentina, we isolated Brevibacterium linens sp. strain AE38-8, obtained from arsenic-contaminated well water. This strain is extremely resistant to arsenicals and has arsenic resistance (ars) genes in its genome. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of B. linens AE38-8.

Arsenic is a metalloid whose name conjures up images of murder. Nonetheless, certain prokaryotes use arsenic oxyanions for energy generation, either by oxidizing arsenite or by respiring arsenate. These microbes are phylogenetically diverse and occur in a wide range of habitats. Arsenic cycling may take place in the absence of oxygen and can contribute to organic matter oxidation. In aquifers, ...
