On starch-gel or polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis of human serum, a supernumerary zone of aspartate aminotransferase activity may be demonstrated, migrating with the slow alpha(2) protein zone. This appearance is due only to cationic aspartate aminotransferase, bound by alpha(2)-macroglobulin. The binding is strongly potentiated by dilute borate buffers.

background non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (nafld) is a common liver disease in the western population and expanding disease in the world. pathological changes in fatty liver are like alcohol liver damage, which can lead to end-stage liver disease. the prevalence of nafld in obese or overweight people is higher than general population, and it seems that people with high body mass index (bmi) ...

background: although several observational and experimental studies have examined the effects of low carbohydrate diets (lcds) on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (nafld), there are considerable inconsistencies among studies. we summarized the effect of lcds on liver function tests, including intrahepatic lipid content (ihlc), alanine transaminase (alt), aspartate aminotransferases (ast),and ga...

We compared two officially recommended methods for determination of aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1): that of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and that of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Klinische Chemie (DGKC). We used automated enzyme analyzers, initiating the reactions with 2-oxoglutarate. Normal values, 10-30 U/L (IFCC) and 7-18 U/L (DGKC), were apparently inse...

Conditions for accurate measurement of catalytic activity of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in human serum have been reinvestigated. The basic variables (kind of buffer, buffer concentration, pH, ion effects, and the influence of pyridoxal-5-phosphate) can now be considered optimized. On this basis, the kinetic parameters of both aminotransferases were determined, i.e.,...

We investigated the enzyme activity of the blank in the spectrophotometric determination of the aminotransferase activities and aspartate aminotransferase activity. 6 lactate dehydrogenase and 3 malate dehydrogenase preparations from different manufactures and from different organs showed additional and contaminating activity. The additional activity depends upon the 2-oxoglutarate concentratio...
