An automated registration system named AISIR (Automated inter-sensor/inter-band satellite image registration) has been designed and implemented for the purpose of registering satellite images acquired using different sensors and spectral bands. Sensor and environmental noise, contrast non-uniformities, and inter-sensor and inter-band intensity mapping differences are addressed in the AISIR syst...

Abstract—Human faces, as important visual signals, express a significant amount of nonverbal info for usage in human-to-human communication. Age, specifically, is more significant among these properties. Human age estimation using facial image analysis as an automated method which has numerous potential real‐world applications. In this paper, an automated age estimation framework is presented. ...

This paper treats how parameter estimation and Kalman filtering can be performed using a Modelica model. The procedures for doing this have been developed earlier by the authors, and are here exemplified on a physical system. It is concluded that the parameter and state estimation problems can be solved using the Modelica model, and that the parameters estimation and observer construction to a ...

A method is described for the estimation of serum protein-bound iodine using alkaline incineration and an automated technique for the estimation of iodine in the ash. Pretreatment of the serum with an anion exchange resin avoids the need for precipitation and washing of the protein. The method is accurate, reproducible, and simple to perform.

The primary focus of this research is to introduce a method of measuring an individual’s IQ by analyzing the vocabulary in said individual’s writing. In this paper, we show that the ratio of SAT words in a dataset of writing samples is roughly normally distributed, though with an obvious left skew. We go on to show a method that can be used to calculate an individual’s IQ with this ratio and pr...

The increasing numbers of investigations into metabolic processes have necessitated the adaptation to automated principles of a method whereby the efficacy of quantitative urine collections can be tested. The estimation of creatinine (creatine anhydride) for this purpose has several aJvantages over other methods which have been used. Creatinine excretion is fairly constant from day to day (Foli...

We present a system to determine ground-plane parameters in densely crowded scenes where use of geometric features such as parallel lines or reliable estimates of agent dimensions are not possible. Using feature points tracked over short intervals, together with some plausible scene assumptions, we can estimate the parameters of the ground-plane to a sufficient degree of accuracy to correct use...

Model selection and associated issues of post-model selection inference present well known challenges in empirical econometric research. These modeling issues are manifest in all applied work but they are particularly acute in multivariate time series settings such as cointegrated systems where multiple interconnected decisions can materially a¤ect the form of the model and its interpretation. ...

An automated method for magnesium determination in serum is described using conventional AutoAnalyser equipment. The method gives results comparable with those obtained by the flame photometer. The method may prove particularly useful with subnormal serum magnesium levels.

This paper describes technology (hardware and software) that has been developed to estimate the volume of material contained within the tray of various haul trucks. Such information is critical to truck utilization and thus can provide information that could lead to significant gains in productivity. The system consists of a field computer and two proximity lasers. The lasers are placed high ab...
