The practice of combining forward and backward memory span, as represented so prominently on the various Wechsler Scales, to arrive at a composite score for clinical interpretation is examined historically and actuarially using a large (N = 1,342) nationally stratified random sample of children from ages 5 years through 19 years. Past literature does not support the additive nature of forward a...

This study investigates strategies in reasoning about mental states of others, a process that requires theory of mind. It is a first step in studying the cognitive basis of such reasoning, as strategies affect tradeoffs between cognitive resources. Participants were presented with a two-player game that required reasoning about the mental states of the opponent. Game theory literature discerns ...

Previous research has revealed that dyslexic children may be more sensitive to backward-masking effects in auditory perception than control children. In this study, we asked whether a CV transition masks a preceding VC transition to a greater extent in dyslexic children than in controls. The results suggest that dyslexic children are severely impaired on the discrimination of VC sequences, rega...

A new formula called 2-point diagonally implicit super class of BBDF with two off-step points (2ODISBBDF) for solving stiff IVPs is formulated. The method approximates two solutions with two off-step points simultaneously at each iteration. By varying a parameter ρ ∈ (–1,1) in the formula, different sets of formulae can be generated. A specific choice of 3 4 ρ = is made and it was shown that th...

Finite difference approximations of dynamical systems modelled by nonlinear, semiexplicit, differential/algebraic equations are analyzed. Convergence for the backward differentiation method is proved for index two and index three problems when the numerical initial values obey certain constraints. The appropriate asymptotic convergence rates and the leading error terms are determined.

A new block extended backward differentiation formula suitable for the integration of stiff initial value problems is derived. The procedure used involves the use of an extra future point which helps in improving the performance of an existing block backward differentiation formula. The method approximates the solution at 3 points simultaneously at each step. Accuracy and stability properties o...

We adapt an instance model of human memory, Minerva 2, to simulate retrospective revaluation. In the account, memory preserves the events of individual trials in separate traces. A probe presented to memory contacts all traces in parallel and causes each to become active. The information retrieved from memory is the sum of the activated traces. Learning is modelled as a process of cued-recall; ...

one of the most important parts of power transmission in automotives is c.v. joint, which consists of four components where exterior bowl is one of them. due to its complexity, and importance in automobile and existence of high stresses, forging process is the only cost effective method of production. hence, the best method of production of this part is forging process. the exterior part of c.v...

a new mathematical model for identifying pollution sources in aquifers is presented. the model utilizes lagrange constrained optimization method (lcom) and is capable to inversely solve unsteady fluid flow in saturated, heterogeneous, anisotropic confined and/or unconfined aquifers. throughout the presented model, complete advection-dispersion equation, including the adsorption as well as retar...

We study the equilibrium behaviour of a deterministic four-state mutation-selection model as a model for the evolution of a population of nucleotide sequences in sequence space. The mutation model is the Kimura 3ST mutation scheme, and the selection scheme is assumed to be invariant under permutation of sites. Considering the evolution process both forward and backward in time, we use the ances...
