In this article, we introduce the concept of co-covering which is the dual of covering concept. Then, we prove several theorems being similar to the theorems that have been de-veloped for the covering concept. For example, we provide the lifting criterion for co-coverings of a topological space X, which helps us to classify them by subgroups of the group of all homeomorphisms of X.

This article presents a contrastive analysis between reading time and syntactic/semantic categories in Japanese. We overlaid the reading time annotation of BCCWJ-EyeTrack and a syntactic/semantic category information annotation on the ‘Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese’. Statistical analysis based on a mixed linear model showed that verbal phrases tend to have shorter reading tim...

The combination of the broad problem searching capabilities of a genetic algorithm with the local maxima location capabilities of a hill climbing algorithm can be a powerful technique for solving classification problems. Producing a number of specialist artificial neural networks, each an expert on one category, can be beneficial when solving problems in which the categories are distinct. This ...

Historically, Medicare has paid PACE providers a monthly capitated rate equal to 95 percent of the site's county AAPCC multiplied by a PACE-specific frailty adjuster of 2.39. The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 makes PACE a permanent provider category and mandates that future Medicare payments be based upon the rate structure of the Medicare+Choice payment system, adjusted for the comparative frail...

This paper introduces axioms for an abstract trace on a monoidal category. This trace can be interpreted in various contexts where it could alternatively be called contraction, feedback, Markov trace or braid closure. Each full submonoidal category of a tortile (or ribbon) monoidal category admits a canonical trace. We prove the structure theorem that every traced monoidal category arises in th...

Discusses whether strategic planning frameworks developed for commercial organisations can be applied effectively to organisations within the UK National Health Service. Case study research within one Trust (10 interviews, plus questionnaire survey and documentary analysis) showed that the Galliers and Sutherland model assessed the stage of growth well, and that the Segars and Grover model illu...

We introduce the task of book structure labeling: segmenting and assigning a fixed category (such as TABLE OF CONTENTS, PREFACE, INDEX) to the document structure of printed books. We manually annotate the page-level structural categories for a large dataset totaling 294,816 pages in 1,055 books evenly sampled from 1750– 1922, and present empirical results comparing the performance of several cl...

Visual Question Answering (VQA) models have struggled with counting objects in natural images so far. We identify a fundamental problem due to soft attention in these models as a cause. To circumvent this problem, we propose a neural network component that allows robust counting from object proposals. Experiments on a toy task show the effectiveness of this component and we obtain state-of-thea...
