Combination bands that involve CH- or OH-stretch vibrations appear in the near-infrared (NIR) region (4000-10 000 cm(-1)). Because they arise from anharmonic coupling between the component fundamentals, detailed analysis of the frequency and intensity of NIR combination bands allows one to elucidate the mechanisms behind the vibrational coupling in the condensed phase in terms of mechanical and...

Wave motion in pipe bends is much more complicated than that straight pipes, thereby changing considerably the propagation characteristics of guided waves pipes with bends. Therefore, a better understanding how propagate essential for inspecting pipelines The interaction between bend and most used non-dispersive torsional mode at low frequency small-bore studied this paper. Experiments are cond...

Fast response No-Bias-Bend (NBB) Liquid Crystal Displays using nano-textured high pretilt angle alignment surfaces has been demonstrated. Such alignment surfaces allow high pretilt angles of over 45o to be fabricated reliably. This NBB-LCD has a rise time of 1.8ms and a fall time of 80μs. The average response time is less than 1ms.

We report on the observation of a change in the bend angle of an RNA kissing complex upon Rop binding using single-molecular-pair FRET. The angular relationship between the dyes, rather than the distance between them, is shown to be responsible for the observed change in energy transfer. It has long been thought that Rop increases the bend angle of the R1invR2inv complex upon binding, but this ...

Stage IVb sporangiophores of Phycomyces grow into the wind--the anemotropic response--and away from gravity--the geotropic response. A procedure has been designed to measure the equilibrium bend angle that results when the two stimuli are given simultaneously over a long period of time. This angle will be referred to as the anemogeotropic equilibrium angle. This measurement of a sensory respons...

In this work, we study the equilibrium configurations in a nematic pi-cell under an electric field using one-dimensional Oseen-Frank director model. The orientational that can be attained are known as splay, bend, and twist. Among those, bend twist topologically equivalent transitioned into one another voltage varies. transition continuous or abrupt depending on material parameters. On other ha...

Freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy study of the nanoscale structure of the so-called "twist-bend" nematic phase of the cyanobiphenyl (CB) dimer molecule CB(CH2)7CB reveals stripe-textured fracture planes that indicate fluid layers periodically arrayed in the bulk with a spacing of d ~ 8.3 nm. Fluidity and a rigorously maintained spacing result in long-range-ordered 3D focal conic ...
