Introduction: cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is involved in pathogenesis of various tumors and possibly malignant skin tumors including malignant melanoma; however, there is not enough information about COX-2 expression in benign melanocytic lesions. In the present study we compared the expression levels of COX-2 in malignant melanoma and benign melanocytic lesions. Method: In this analytical study, ...

Our objective is to describe the CT features of exophytic hepatic tumors those may pose a diagnostic challenge because of the uncertainty of tumor origin. The beak sign and the feeding artery of a tumor are useful diagnostic indicators of exophytic hepatic tumors. Two- or three-dimensional reformation images are also helpful for diagnosis. The CT features of exophytic hepatic tumors are similar...

Inverted papilloma is the most common benign tumor of nose and paranasal sinuses arising from lateral nasal wall and middle meatus. Histologically these tumors are composed of epithelial nests that are inverted, exophytic and cylindrical. Here we describe a clinical case of nasal cylindrical cell papilloma, which was treated by endoscopic excision.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy(FNAB) and core needle biopsy(CNBx) have proved to be accurate and cost-effective techniques for diagnosis of inflammatory and neoplastic lesions at different body sites. However, their applicability in bone and soft tissue pathology is still controversial. In this study, our experience with FNAB and CNBx of musculoskeletal lesions was prospectively investigat...

Pyogenic granuloma is a relatively common benign lesion of the skin and/or mucosal surfaces, accounting for 0.5% of all skin nodules in children in the United States alone (Lin et al, 2004). The aetiology is still poorly understood but trauma, hormonal influence, viral oncogenes, microscopic arteriovenous malformations and growth factors (e.g. tumour angiogenesis factor – Patrice et al, 1991) h...

Papillomaviruses (PVs) induce papillomas, premalignant lesions, and carcinomas in a wide variety of species. PVs are classified first based on their host and tissue tropism and then their genomic diversities. A laboratory mouse papillomavirus, MmuPV1 (formerly MusPV), was horizontally transmitted within an inbred colony of NMRI-Foxn1(nu)/Foxn1nu (nude; T cell deficient) mice of an unknown perio...
