The mechanism of inclusion removal from liquid steel by gas bubbling and bubble attachment in the tundish is complex due to the great number of variables involved, and it is even more difficult to study because of the turbulent flow conditions. The main objective of this work is to analyze and improve the understanding of the alumina inclusion removal rate by bubble attachment and by gas bubbli...

Is a settling drop equivalent to a rising bubble? The answer is known to be in general a no, but we show that when the density of the drop is less than 1.2 times that of the surrounding fluid, an equivalent bubble can be designed for small inertia and large surface tension. Hadamard's exact solution is shown to be better for this than making the Boussinesq approximation. Scaling relationships a...

We developed a new lattice Boltzmann method that allows the simulation of two-phase flow of viscoelastic liquid mixtures. We used this new method to simulate a bubble rising in a viscoelastic fluid and were able to reproduce the experimentally observed cusp at the trailing end of the bubble.  2000 Elsevier Science B.V. This paper develops a procedure for estimation of the rise velocity of a swarm of large gas bubbles in a bubble column operating in the churn-turbulent flow regime. The large bubble swarm velocity is estimated by introducing two correction factors into the classical Davies—Taylor (1950) relation for rise of a single spherical cap bubble in a liquid » b "0.71Jgd b (SF) (AF) . The scale correctio...

Cylindrical cavitation bubbles, capable of generating extreme strain rates, are experimentally and theoretically studied in shear-thickening suspensions. Starting from the limit between continuous discontinuous shear thickening regimes, bubbles deform increasingly with increasing solid volume fraction until replaced by cavitation-induced fractures.

High-speed video and infrared thermometry were used to obtain timeand space-resolved information on bubble nucleation and heat transfer in pool boiling of water. The bubble departure diameter and frequency, growth and wait times, and nucleation site density were directly measured for a thin, electrically-heated, indium-tin-oxide surface, laid on a sapphire substrate. These data are very valuabl...

Air bubbles are used in chemical, biochemical, environmental, and food process for improving the heat and mass transfer. Due to the dominance of non-Newtonian liquids used in various process industries, an understanding of bubble rise in rheologically complex liquids has grown to be important. An experimental study of the bubble rise velocity and drag co-efficient at high Reynolds number in non...

We study the nucleation of a bubble in a metastable Lennard-Jones (LJ) fluid, confined to a spherical pore with wetting walls, by a combination of grand canonical, canonical ensemble, and gauge cell Monte Carlo simulation methods complemented by the Voronoi-Delaunay tessellation analysis of statistical geometry of intermolecular cavities. We construct the isotherm of confined fluid in the form ...
