A new system for studying mechanical activity of freshly isolated cardiac myocytes from up to four experimental groups simultaneously is described. Suspensions of cardiac myocytes isolated from adult rat hearts were drawn into microhematocrit capillary tubes, which were then mounted in parallel fashion between two four-channel tubing manifolds placed on the movable stage of an inverted microsco...

____________ _ Complement activation induced by latex, polyvinylchloride, and silicone tubings for extracorporeal circulation was studied in 2 in vitro situations: Fresh whole human blood mixed with priming solution was circulated through 1 00 em tubing lengths for 1 hour, and small tubing pieces were incubated in fresh human serum for 7 hours. Activation of C3 and of the terminal pathway (C5-C...

A modification of the needle-tubing combination for the push-pull machine used for aspiration-irrigation of congenital and traumatic cataracts, is described. The new needle-tubing-handle combination is advantageous in that the incorporated handle makes the insertion and maneouvring in the anterior chamber easier and also the whole combination can easily be autoclaved as silastic tubing is used.

The internal pressure strength of tubing and casing often cannot satisfy the design requirements in high pressure, high temperature and high H2S gas wells. Also, the practical safety coefficient of some wells is lower than the design standard according to the current API 5C3 standard, which brings some perplexity to the design. The ISO 10400: 2007 provides the model which can calculate the burs...

The purpose of the study was to compare tubing-related injuries to wakeboarding- and water skiing-related injuries. Data was collected from the 2000-2007 National Electronic Injury Surveillance Survey for 1,761 individuals seeking care at an emergency department due to a tubing-, wakeboarding, or water skiing-related injury. Data included patient age and sex, as well as injury characteristics i...

High-speed countercurrent chromatography with a spiral tube assembly can retain a satisfactory amount of stationary phase of polymer phase systems used for protein separation. In order to improve the partition efficiency a simple tool to modify the tubing shapes was fabricated, and the following four different tubing modifications were made: intermittently pressed at 10 mm width, flat, flat-wav...

A number of products exhibiting biocompatible features have been developed for use in extracorporeal blood circuits during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. While attention has been focused on biocompatibility features of the blood-circuit interface, a number of issues applicable in clinical use of these circuits have arisen. Surface Modifying Additive Technology (SMART; Cobe Cardiovascular, A...

BACKGROUND Most patients on long-term oxygen therapy use stationary oxygen delivery systems. It is not uncommon for guidelines to instruct patients to use tubing lengths no longer than 19.68 ft (6 m) when using an oxygen concentrator and 49.21 ft (15 m) when using cylinders. However, these concepts are not based on sufficient evidence. Thus, our objective was to evaluate whether a 98.42-ft (30-...
