[1] We investigate the effects of the porosity (and thus permeability) of porous matrix and the fracture aperture on transport in fractured porous media. We do so with detailed lattice Boltzmann simulations on constructed porous media with a single fracture. Both plume spatial moments (the average plume velocity and the dispersion coefficients) and mass transfer coefficients between the facture...
We propose algorithms for computational upscaling of flow from porescale (microscale) to lab scale (mesoscale). In particular, we solve Navier-Stokes equations in complex pore geometries and average their solutions to derive properties of flow relevant at lab scale such as permeability and inertia coefficients. We discuss two variants of traditional discretizations: a simple algorithm which wor...
We investigate a two-phase porous media flow model, in which dynamic effects are taken into account in phase pressure difference. We consider a one-dimensional heterogeneous case, with two adjacent homogeneous blocks separated by an interface. The absolute permeability is assumed constant, but different in each block. This may lead to the entrapment of the nonwetting phase (say, oil) when flowi...
This paper is concerned with the fast resolution of nonlinear and linear algebraic equations arising from a fully implicit ®nite volume discretization of two-phase ̄ow in porous media. We employ a Newton-multigrid algorithm on unstructured meshes in two and three space dimensions. The discretized operator is used for the coarse grid systems in the multigrid method. Problems with discontinuous c...
Predicting the pore flow velocity directly from sub-sampled structure is an ill-conditioned problem. Inspired by multi-grid methods for solving systems of linear equations, we use fields simulated on coarse meshes to remedy such ill-conditioning. This leads a super-resolution-assisted geometry-to-velocity mapping porous media.
Chemical flooding, especially alkaline/surfactant/polymer flooding, is of increasing interest due to the world increasing oil demand. This work shows the aspects of using alkaline/surfactant/polymer as an enhanced oil recovery method in the porous media having a high dead-end pore frequency with various dead-end pore parameters (such as opening, depth, aspect ratio, and orientation). Using glas...
The diffusive fluxes in porous media are inherently influenced by a reaction occurring at the internal surface. This investigation analyses this impact via Fourier-mode analysis spherical coarsely model geometries consisting of random agglomerates spheres. Trends determined from results and overall for given estimated.
A numerical method is proposed to calculate damping properties for sound-proof structures involving elastic body, viscoelastic body, and porous media. For elastic and viscoelastic body displacement is modeled using conventional finite elements including complex modulus of elasticity. Both effective density and bulk modulus have complex quantities to represent damped sound fields in the porous m...
The Flow through saturated-unsaturated porous media is extremely important in various natural and industrial based applications. While the Darcy's law with various modifications are used to model the flow through a porous media, the flow through unsaturated porous media is largely based on conservation of mass and modified Darcy's law where non-linear relationship exists between the p...
