The renormalization of vector and axial-vector currents for massive fermions (in the " Fermilab formalism ") is discussed. We give results for non-degenerate masses, which are needed for semi-leptonic form factors.

We present the first measurement of a new correlation function of Fermion bilinears in finite temperature QCD with and without dynamical quarks in a quantum number channel in which nontrivial correlations are known to be present for purely gluonic operators. We find that the Fermion correlator vanishes for T ≥ 3Tc/2, in agreement with the expectation for weakly interacting quarks in a quark-glu...

A modest in-plane magnetic field Bk is sufficient to destroy the fractional quantized Hall states at 1⁄4 5=2 and 7=2 and replace them with anisotropic compressible phases. Remarkably, we find that at larger Bk these anisotropic phases can themselves be replaced by isotropic compressible phases reminiscent of the composite fermion fluid at 1⁄4 1=2. We present strong evidence that this transition...

In the present paper, the damage of fiber-reinforced composite laminates is considered with the aim to examine the change of their mechanical properties. The crucial issue for theoretical analysis is to construct constitutive relations, which take into account the development of damage, along with stress and strain. The paper is mainly focused on this problem. In order to derive an adequate des...

We solve the effective Dirac equation for massless fermions during inflation in the simplest gauge, including all one loop corrections from quantum gravity. At late times the result for a spatial plane wave behaves as if the classical solution were subjected to a time dependent field strength renormalization of Z2(t) = 1 − 17 4πGH2 ln(a) + O(G). We show that this also follows from making the Ha...

We propose an integral form of Atiah-Patodi-Singer spectral boundary conditions (SBC) and find explicitly the integral projector onto SBC for the 3-dimensional spherical cavity. After discussion of a simple example we argue that the relation between the projector and fermion propagator is universal and stays valid independently of the bag form and space dimension.

Considering a higher dimensional Lorentz group as the tangent symmetry, we unify gravity and gauge interactions in a natural way. The spin connection of the gauged Lorentz group is then responsible for both gravity and gauge fields, and the action for the gauged fields becomes part of the spin curvature squared. The realistic group which unifies all known particles and interactions is the SO(1,...

This paper describes a new technique for tracking locally curved unknown objects using sonar. The approach explicitly accounts for relevant robot dynamics. Objects are tracked by looking for temporal sequences of observations that fit a kinematic model. The method is illustrated using data from a synthetic aperture sonar gathered by a BPAUV at NATO SACLANT’s GOATS 2002 experiment in the Liguria...

Facial composite systems may be used by police to help a witness to a crime create a likeness of the perpetrator. Evaluation of new facial composite systems in the laboratory allows a measure of experimental control, but lacks the emotional impact of a real crime. As a step towards a more realistic level of stress for our participant witnesses, we presented target face images while they were en...

Algebraic Yang-Mills-Higgs theories based on noncommutative geometry have brought forth novel extensions of gauge theories with interesting applications to phenomenology. We sketch the model of Connes and Lott, as well as variants of it, and the model developed by a Mainz-Marseille group, by comparing them in a schematic way. The role of fermion masses and mixings is discussed, and the question...
