Thirty-six patients with 39 fresh fractures of the calcaneus were investigated by standard radiography and by computerised tomography. It was found that the size and disposition of the fracture fragments and the degree of involvement of the posterior facet of the subtalar joint were more clearly shown by CT scanning. We recommend this technique for assessment and particularly for pre-operative ...

Two patients are described in whom computerised tomography revealed contrast-enhanced lesions in the early stages of multiple sclerosis. Such lesions may be differentiated from tumours by their transient nature, lack of space-occupying effect, and localisation in the white matter. Contrast enhancement in demyelinating disease is probably related to local breakdown of the blood-brain barrier.

Computerised axial tomography (CAT) has profoundly altered the management of most children with posterior fossa tumours. Fifty such children were operated on from October 1973 to December 1975, 20 of whom were explored after investigation by CAT only. Most recent experience suggests that CAT need by the only investigation in the majority of children suspected of having an expanding lesion in th...

A case of diencephalic epilepsy is described in whom stereotyped attacks of spontaneous hypothermia and diaphoresis occurred over a 20 year period. No abnormality of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis was found, and there was no evidence of an intracranial mass lesion. Pneumoencephalography and computerised axial tomography (EMI scan) demonstrated agenesis of the corpus callosum.

Two cases of interhemispheric subdural haematoma are reported. The first patient presented with a falx syndrome of contralateral hemiparesis, most marked in the lower extremity. The second patient had vertex headaches and was diagnosed with computerised tomography. Serial studies suggested that the interhemispheric haematoma may have migrated to a lateral position over the cerebral convexity.

In this report, we describe a patient with a subvalvular membrane on the left ventricular outflow tract. Discrete subvalvular membrane is a cause of left ventricular outflow tract narrowing. Multidetector computerised tomography can demonstrate the anatomical three-dimensional view of this region and guide for surgery.

Lipoma of corpus callosum is a rare intracranial tumour or malformation. The appearances of this tumour in computerised tomography (CT) brain scans are fairly specific. A case report is presented with a short discussion of reported cases and review of literature and CT features of the tumour (JPMA 36: 149, 1988).

Hepatic Artery Aneurysms (HAA) are rare vascular lesions which are associated with significant morbidity and mortality in the event of rupture. Early diagnosis and expedient management are therefore important to optimise outcome. Here we report a case of a giant Hepatic Artery Aneurysms (HAA) found incidentally on Computerised Tomography, successfully managed without complication by elective su...

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common head and neck cancer. This review describes the state-of-the-art computerised tomography and magnetic resonance imaging protocols of the neck and the normal larynx anatomy, and provides a practical approach for the diagnosis and staging of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
