55th ASMS Conference – Indianapolis 2007 www.chemistry.wustl.edu/~msf/ Overview Purposes •Evaluate the resolving power and sensitivity achievable with a new compensated trap for FTMS as a function of m/z and develop a protocol for tuning this trap. Methods •Sample empirically the cyclotron frequency surface at various cyclotron radii and z-mode amplitude distributions. •Compare the mass resolvi...

A set of constraints is derived for the operating characteristics of tokamak power reactors which are bulk heated by electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH). Four heating modes are considered: ordinary wave heating at the electron cyclotron frequency, 0, and at the second harmonic frequency, 20, and extraordinary wave heating at 0 and at 20. For ordinary wave heating at 1, which appears to ...

Abstract Using the dielectric theory for a weakly coupled plasma we investigate the stopping power of the ion in a temperature anisotropic magnetized electron plasma. The analysis is based on the assumption that the energy variation of the ion is much less than its kinetic energy. The obtained general expression for stopping power is analyzed for weak and strong magnetic fields (i.e., for the e...

Design and construction of 10MeV cyclotron has been started at Amirkabir University of Technology since 2012. So far, the conceptual and detail engineering design phases have been finalized. The main purpose of this baby cyclotron is to generate proton beam for the production of PET radioisotopes. The cyclotron consists of magnet, cavity, ion source, RF and LLRF system, vacuum system, cooling s...

In a standard pulsar model, the radio emission is produced in the relativistic, strongly magnetized electron-positron plasma in the polar-cap region of the magnetosphere. Waves are generated well below the cyclotron frequency and must propagate through the cyclotron resonance region where they are affected by the resonance. Wave dispersion near the cyclotron resonance is discussed in the formal...

Localized direct electron heating by mode-converted ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) waves in D(H) tokamak plasmas has been clearly observed for the first time in Alcator C-Mod. Both onand off-axis (high field side) mode conversion electron heating (MCEH) have been observed. The MCEH profile was obtained from a break in slope analysis of electron temperature signals in the presence of ...

The ability to non-inductively drive a large fraction of the toroidal plasma current in magnetically confined plasmas is an essential requirement for steady state fusion reactors such as DEMO. Besides neutral beam injection (NBI), electron-cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) and lower hybrid wave heating (LH), ion-cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) is a promising candidate to drive current, in p...

Theoretical and experimental studies of low-frequency electrostatic waves in plasmas containing negatively charged dust grains are described. The presence of charged dust is shown to modify the properties of ion-acoustic waves and electrostatic ion-cyclotron waves through the quasineutrality condition even though the dust grains do not participate in the wave dynamics. If the dust dynamics is i...

The introduction of a strongly magnetized plasma in the inner region of a Free Electron Laser opens up the possibility of generating coherent radiation in the slow whistler mode using mildly relativistic electron beams. The frequency of emission, however, is limited to below the electron cyclotron frequency. The efficiency of the device can be enhanced by tapering the guide magnetic field.

A cyclotron-resonance maser (CRM) is implemented in a periodic quadrupole waveguide. The device oscillates at the fundamental and high harmonics of the cyclotron frequency. This CRM employs a tenuous low-energy electron beam ( approximately 10 keV, 0.2 A). The periodic structure consists of an array of disks along the quadrupole transmission line, hence it combines both azimuthal and axial peri...
