Pathology of the dens, such as fractures, demands precise terminology so that communication between physicians are succinct, diagnoses are accurate, and treatment strategies exact. This review aims to summarize the various terms used to describe the parts of the dens and recommend the ideal terminology. Using standard search engines, English language publications were searched for the many term...

Dens in dente are known to be associated with many dental abnormalities such as taurodontism microdontia, gemination, and dens evaginatus. This paper describes a rare case of double dens in dente in a lateral incisor with crown morphology similar to a premolar present in a patient with features of albinism. Problems associated with this condition and their management is discussed.

BACKGROUND Non-ambulatory tetraparesis with an absence of the dens of C2 (axis) has not previously been reported in large breed dogs. An absence or hypoplasia of the dens has been reported in both small, medium and large breed dogs, but not in closely related animals. METHODS Two young large-breed dogs (a German shepherd and a Standard poodle) both with an acute onset of non-ambulatory tetrap...

Garter snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis) in Manitoba court and mate at communal overwintering dens and then disperse to feeding ranges in summer. The restriction of mating activities to den areas may reduce gene flow between populations from adjacent dens, in turn allowing divergence in traits such as antipredator behavior. We quantified responses of adult male snakes to the approach of h...

We report the synthesis, characterization, and extraction of Au dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles (DENs) prepared in organic solvents. DENs composed of 31 and 55 Au atoms were prepared using organic solvents and poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer templates modified on their periphery with dodecyl groups. The spectral and microscopic properties of the resulting materials were identical to tho...

Dens evaginatus is a developmental anomaly characterized by the occurrence of an extra cusp shaped as a tubercle projecting from the palatal or buccal surfaces (talon cusp). In the anterior dentition, dens evaginatus is more commonly found in the maxilla and on the palatal surface of the tooth. The authors present a case of dens evaginatus in a maxillary central incisor, in which the evaginatio...

Dens invaginatus is a rare developmental anomaly. It is unusual to find this anomaly in primary dentition. Diagnosis of this dens invaginatus is important due to possible pulpal involvement. Not only that, simultaneous presence of other dental anomaly may require long-term treatment planning. Dens invaginatus can be detected clinically in the tooth presenting unusual crown morphology or radiogr...

This case report describes the anomalous development of maxillary permanent lateral incisors in a seven-year-old white male. The maxillary right permanent lateral incisor radiographically demonstrated anomalous development characteristic of dens invaginatus. A coincidental finding of a microdontic maxillary left permanent lateral incisor also was observed at this time. This patient presented wi...
