INTRODUCTION Currently, the gold standard for donor organ preservation in clinical organ transplantation consists of 3 plastic bags and an ice box. The first plastic bag includes the organ itself immersed in preservation solution (e.g. Celsior). This bag is put in a second bag filled with saline, and then these two are put in a third bag filled with saline which is then put in the ice box.  The...

We develop an electrothermal transport model for nanocomposite thin films based on self-consistent solution of drift-diffusion and Poisson equations for electrons coupled with diffusive transport of heat. This model is used to analyze the performance of an electronic display the pixels of which are controlled by carbon nanotube CNT network thin-film transistors TFTs . The effect of electrotherm...

MEMS (Micro-electromechanical Systems) becomes important increasingly due to the smarter and smaller fuze used in OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon). MEMS Safety and Arming (S&A) device is employed in different platforms and regions for small caliber projectile. Therefore, it is necessary to make a parametric study of the MEMS S&A device in different apply environments and explore the ma...

Patient warming significantly decreases the risk of surgical site infection. Recently there have been concerns that forced air warming may interfere with unidirectional airflow, potentially posing an increased risk of infection. Our null hypothesis was that forced air and radiant warming devices do not increase the temperature and the number of particles over the surgical site when compared wit...

Pervaporation in a microfluidic device is performed on liquid ternary solutions of hydrogen peroxide-water-methanol in order to concentrate hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by removing methanol. The quantitative analysis of the pervaporation of solutions with different initial compositions is performed, varying the operating temperature of the microfluidic device. Experimental results together with a m...

In this paper, the design and development of a microchip wireless physiological parameter monitoring device has been developed and reported in this paper. This system is able to use for monitor physiological parameters such as body position, heart rate, and human body temperature. This system is built up of electronic device which is worn on wrist and leg by a patient. Measuring vital signs wit...

We demonstrate tunable superluminal propagation in a silicon microphotonic device in a solid-state room-temperature device of tens of micrometers in dimension allowing easy integration with high-bandwidth room-temperature systems. We achieve tunable negative delays up to 85 ps and effective group indices tunable between -1158 and -312.

We investigate the reliability issues associated with the application of CMOS devices contained within an advanced SiGe HBT BiCMOS technology to emerging cryogenic space electronics (e.g., down to 43 K, for Lunar missions). Reduced temperature operation improves CMOS device performance (e.g., transconductance, carrier mobility, subthreshold swing, and output current drive), as expected. However...

We report a method for quantifying scanning thermal microscopy (SThM) probe-sample thermal interactions in air using a novel temperature calibration device. This new device has been designed, fabricated and characterised using SThM to provide an accurate and spatially variable temperature distribution that can be used as a temperature reference due to its unique design. The device was character...

AIM To evaluate the magnetic properties of the Ex-PRESS stainless steel glaucoma drainage device during MRI. DESIGN Experimental study. METHODS The Ex-PRESS glaucoma drainage device (316L stainless steel) was examined for magnetic field interactions under standard 1.5, 3.0, and 4.7 T MRI scanning protocols. Testing included measurements of translational and rotational motion of the device i...
